"Walking death? I kinda like that, but worthless? No, no, no. I can't have that. Ask any of my employers, I'm worth quite a bit."
Jani rolled her eyes. "Oh yes, your 'employers' value you very much..." She knew what is was like to be 'valued'. 'Employers' only 'value' you until you can't or won't do what they want. Then your just like yesterday's garbage, thrown out and left for dead.
Jani watched as the fox's paw clenched around his sword hilt. She had struck a nerve! Better him than her, she thought. Now that he was, even a bit, emotional, Jani had the advantage of clear thinking. For now anyways...
Jani watched as the fox actually did something smart for once. Instead of letting Rajani spin him completely around, he let go of his blade letting it embed itself in a tree.
Leaping backward out of the range of the sheath, Jani watched as the fox unwound the chain that was on his arm. And with some fancy work, the fox now had a scythe and a throwing chain. Jani raised an eyebrow. A scythe? Really? Who does this fox think he is anyways?
But Jani did not have long to ponder that though as the fox chucked the weighted chain at her. Throwing her arms up to grab a branch of a tree near by, Jani pulled herself upward just in time to miss the whizzing chain, if not lose a chunk of rudder fur.
From her point up in the tree, Jani was well out of the way for a blow that followed the flying chain. In a flash, Jani had put a way her daggers and loaded an arrow to her bow, aiming the shot right at the fox's head.
"A scythe? really? Are you trying to make me laugh?" She taunted him, knowing that her position in the tree gave her a slight momentary advantage and relief from fighting.

Jasyn chuckled. "Indeed they do value me. If they do not, they find their life's work burning in ruins around them, and any underlings scattered to the four winds. I make that clear from the very start of our business relationship." He could see from the slight smirk that she believed him in turmoil. He was, to a certain extent. His past almost always affected his thinking, but not for too long. After a very short time, he was able to fight through the fog of memory. But still, he detested the effect that his history had on his present. The merc watched as his prey leaped up into a nearby tree to avoid his attacks. With immediate action delayed, he set the heel of his scythe on the ground and leaned it against his shoulder. Surveying the otter, he looked right at the arrow aimed for his head. Lazily swinging the chain, he laughed. "Oh, I'm sorry. You meant make you laugh, not me. Well, in any case, laughter will disable you for a short time. By all means, indulge yourself." His banter was merely a way to pass the time, as he assessed options to him. She might loose the arrow, in that case he might go with either an impressive catch or block, or a smarter dodge. Or he could make a preemptive strike, and knock the would-be squirrel out of the tree. "But, shouldn't I be the one to say that? You are an otter, an aquatic species, in a tree. Was your mother a squirrel?" He measured the space between the ground and her center with his eyes. Twirling the chain faster now he grinned. He knew exactly what to do with her. Letting more chain out with each rotation, he aimed, and loosed for her footpaw. Certainly she'd loose an arrow. If it came anywhere near him, he'd cut in in mid-air. Impress on this upstart assassin who she was dealing with.

((Ooc: So Jasyn, I had this idea that this encounter would have happened before Jani met Enon, so if she could make it out alive, when we finish battling each other? Plus it also would be fun to have an enemy that is constantly following you... ;) ... That sound cool to you, or do you have other ideas?))
"Indeed they do value me. If they do not, they find their life's work burning in ruins around them, and any underlings scattered to the four winds. I make that clear from the very start of our business relationship."
Jani rolled her eyes. Boy this fox was stuck up! What did he think he was? King of all of Mossflower?
"Oh, I'm sorry. You meant make you laugh, not me. Well, in any case, laughter will disable you for a short time. By all means, indulge yourself."
"You think your so funny." Jani snarled as she held the arrow taught on it's string. "Your going to find out very soon that some creatures don't find it so."
"But, shouldn't I be the one to say that? You are an otter, an aquatic species, in a tree. Was your mother a squirrel?"
Jani's eyes flashed in a deadly fury as memories of her mother flooded her mind. She was so sweet, and tender. Always happy and cheerful. Now she never will be again.
How dare he say that! HOW DARE HE!!! Even as the fox let his chain go once again, Jani, although ready for the attack, now felt no mercy for this fox. He had pushed the wrong button. Leaping off the branch so the chain would break the branch instead of her foot, Jani shot her arrow at his chest.
Upon firing the arrow, Rajani threw her arms out and cartwheeled a landing behind the fox. Pulling out another arrow, Jani had a straight lined shot if the first one missed. "No one!" Jani growled. "Ever! Talks. That way. About. MY MOTHER!"

(perfectly fine, actually. When this started, I had NO intention of either a casualty or fatality on either side. Jasyn popping up every now and again is what I had planned, and so do it I shall. On that note, how we gonna end this?)
Really, Rajani amused Jasyn to no end. She judged him, she hated him; and very little time had passed. Now, she was rolling her eyes. Few creatures dared treat him with the contempt she did, so it was actually quite refreshing. It would be inaccurate to say that the fox was glad he accepted the job. Even with half the posted bounty, he would have done it now. The higher the disrespect, the more fun it would be to take her down and back into captivity with his employer. "Well, as long as I make myself laugh, I don't really care. I'm the one who matters to me, and pretty much nothing else can change that." True too. Nobody took care of a little fox cub, so why spare any care or mercy for anything else? All he wanted to do was make a living, and all he wanted to feel was nothing. Rajani, she didn't quite seem to agree. Oh, well. Soon enough, she would be in chains. Well, that was interesting. The merc looked as he seemed to have struck a nerve in the otter. Finally, some outright rage. Really, he was starting to thing that she had entirely too much sense. The chain hooked around the branch, missing his target completely. He cursed under his breath at his bad luck. Now his weapon was restricted. But, he would manage. So, as the arrow came speeding towards his chest, he simply stepped to the left, and slashed with the leading edge. As the arrow fell on the ground at his footpaws, he looked up to see the ex-assassin glaring at him with another arrow. As she threatened him, he started chuckling. "Well. Seems like the little killer has a limit after all. That's a good thing, as this was going to get dull if you merely stayed stoic and unmoved."

((Ooc: *shrugs* I don't know. But I have an idea if you are willing. Maybe Jasyn gets mildly stuck (not serious injured if you don't want) in one of his own traps and Jani escapes. It would give Jasyn more motive for catching her with a bruised pride....Or any ideas of yours a welcome.))
"Well, as long as I make myself laugh, I don't really care. I'm the one who matters to me, and pretty much nothing else can change that."
"Wow, no sense of humility there." Jani replied sarcastically. This fox was becoming less and less of a threat and more of a pest in which Jani just wanted to squish like a little fly and move on. Besides...she had more important business to attend to...
"Well. Seems like the little killer has a limit after all. That's a good thing, as this was going to get dull if you merely stayed stoic and unmoved."
Rajani pulled her bow taughter, ready to pierce the chuckling fox right through his throat. "You want something more interesting?" Jani snarled, her temper flaring. "I'll pull your insolent tongue out of your mouth, the hard way..."
(yeah...it's short...my bad...)

(Actually, you probably could've split. His chain's hooked on the branch, you know. But, I think I know what to do.) Jasyn shook his head. "Humility is a useless emotion. Humbled, you are weak and in need of pity. It disables spirit, breaks resolution, and dissolves stronger emotions like the morning dew. If you wish me to have it, then you should have wished for more luck, and a different hunter to be sent to your boss' little cave headquarters." Why should he feel humble? He saw the result. Only through deception would he be so, and he would be false in it. Humble creatures had little to no fight left in them. Unwavering, the fox looked once again at an arrow aimed to kill him. Emotionless, captive, there was no reaction. He turned his head to look at the chain caught in the tree, then down at the two arrow pieces at his feet. Slowly, he raised his free paw, and took his hood off. Giving an eerie double-tooth grin, Jasyn looked straight at his target with his dead gray eyes, and pulled back the collar of his clothing. "Here I am. Caught in a tree, and for all intents and purposes defenseless. Here's my throat, or here's my tongue, " With that, he stuck his tongue out mockingly at the otter. "Do as you will, daughter of death, if you can possibly do so."

(( Ooc: Oh, right.. My bad. )) "Humility is a useless emotion. Humbled, you are weak and in need of pity. It disables spirit, breaks resolution, and dissolves stronger emotions like the morning dew. If you wish me to have it, then you should have wished for more luck, and a different hunter to be sent to your boss' little cave headquarters." "On the contrary." Jani spoke her eyes smoldering with fury. "Humility is not being a bed-headed-bloated-bull frog. Not unlike yourself. And you really think I wanted you trying to hunt me down? There was a reason I left and I don't need a pathetic excuse for a hunter annoying me. So you can march right back into that cave and tell "my boss" to boil his head in hot oil." Slowly, he raised his free paw, and took his hood off. "Do as you will, daughter of death, if you can possibly do so."Jani gave the fox a look of absolute disgust. "You do know your face is more disgusting than it is scary right? And it's not even the worst thing I've seen." "Fine." Jani snarled. "Happy Hunting." And with that he released the arrow at the fox's throat, then firing two more arrows in rapid succession right after. One to the left and one to the right. So the fox would have limited area to run and not get hit by at least one of the arrows. And with that Jani sprinted off into the woods, darting from shadow to shadow. Not making a sound. Practically invisible. Jani didn't care whether she had killed the fox or not. He was an annoyance who had obiviously killed more than his fair share of good beasts. If he died, good riddance. Right now, Rajani had more important matters to attend to. She had to find her brother.....

Jasyn smiled as he looked up at his target. "Believe what you wish, miss. Know that you will be coming down, however you insult me." The mercenary pretended to be hurt. "You wound me madam, with your harsh words. Disgusting? Well, that's not very nice is it?" Disgusting. Yeah, he never heard that word before. Particularly not in regards to his face, oh no. They thought he was pretty. The found him dashing..."You're hardly original in your barbs, riverdog. I've heard it all before, from lesser and greater creatures then you." As his target snarled, Jasyn grinned again. But the three arrow in rapid succession surprised him, but he whipped up his arm quickly. Three jets of agony arced through his system, and he grimaced. As he put his improvised pincushin down, he glanced at the retreating back of Rajani. "Oh. This will be fun..." Smiling honestly now, he jerked his weapon, and both branch and chain crashed down. "Run, run, run as fast as you can. I can catch you, I'm the death-dealing fan."
