Through the dank swamp he traveled. His purpose? No one knew, not even him at times. His appearance was that of Death itself, and scared even the lizards and frogs into hiding. Only the few brave dared challenge him, but their bones were long passed in the murk. As Jasyn stepped from dry-ground to dry ground, his gray eyes monitored his surroundings ceaselessly. He noted the cowering and contemplative eyes of would-be bandits and kidnappers, but they would not emerge from the protection of the shadows. He smirked underneath the hood of his robe. His atmosphere was well established, and he kept it like that because it prevented bothersome disturbances from the weak minded. The fox suddenly stopped, and unsheathed his sword. When he attached it to the extra-long sheath, he slowly turned around, and then looked up. "Get down from there, if you know what's good for you."

"Get down from there, if you know what's good for you."
Clar rolled his eyes. Apparently this fox had excellent hearing. Taking his black arrow off the string of his longbow, he dropped out of the branches of the tree he'd been perched in. Landing perfectly on a boulder portruding form the muck, he smirked at the fox.
"Aftanoon," the rat greeted, paw on one hip. "I believe I do indeed know wot's good for me, an' I don't think you're the one to decide that." His scaled tail swung hypnotically back and forth behind him as he studied this intruder. Well, technically, they were both intruders, as this was neither Clar's nor the foxes territory, as far as Clar knew. "Wot brings ye ta the swamps, mate? Lookin' fer sommat ta do, eh? Ye bored?"
The rat's golden eyes tried in vain to decipher the face hidden beneath the hood. He gave up and instead looked down to the more immediate threat, the beast's sword. It was in impressive weapon, to be sure, and a lethal-looking one, at that. But Clar wasn't interested in weapons. He just wanted to learn how in Hellgates this fox had heard him when he was being quieter than the breeze.

It had seemed that he had noted a rat, literally. Holding his scythe low, Jasyn narrowed his unseen eyes at Clar. Mouthy, arrogant. Maybe he needed to be taught a lesson. One that the fox mercenary would be pleased to deliver. Abruptly, he lifted his weapon and leaned the unsharpened side of the blade on his shoulder and curled a paw over the hilt. He dangled the chain lazily in his other paw, and he gave a low laugh. Bored? Yes, yes he was. He hadn't seen his target, and so he had nothing to do. He would spend this time with Clar. Hopefully, he would see an end to his boredom.
"Indeed I am." The fox said in a low voice. "There is little for me to do. I sought to explore the swamps and here I am." He spread his hand, still holding the chain, and indicated the area around him. "Are you willing to bring an end to my boredom, rat? Or shall I force entertainment from you? I assure you, I am quite willing and able." Jasyn smirked under his hood. "What do you say, rat? Shall we spend our hour in the swamp with combat, or shall we spend it with murder? I'm up for either."

Clar grinned widely, his yellowing teeth showing clearly between his lips. This fox was as cocky as he was, and just as eloquent as any other fox on the planet. Self-centered upstarts, all of them, but Clar kept his opinions to himself.
"Let's ask questions, instead, fox," he began, wrapping one muscular arm around his middle and leaning his other elbow on it. "Wot yew know 'bout a big abbeyplace called Redwall?" He figured it would be best to ask his most pressing question outright, then he could put forth his usual wager.
