"Brooke, could you clean up the cut? I'll start with this."
Nodding, she turned to her little patient. She handed him a couple of chesnuts. "Munch on these while Mr. Tirael and I work on that nasty bugger of a cut." at the young ones approving nod, she grabbed a damp rag and started dabbing at the cut. "Tirael, this shouldn't take much of anything to heal it. Its nearly done!" then putting the rag down she sat on the edge of the bed. "I can't wait for everything to go back to normal!"

Tirael mixed and mashed as he listened to Brookesong's bedside manner. Glancing at the little squirrel, he smiled at his reaction. Making a note that Brookesong was good with hurt children (however much she loathed the idea of any young one being hurt), he finished up the little mixture and put down his pestle. Walking over, he said, "Alright, this should help you get better faster, and it'll make the...cut not hurt so much." The squirrel held out his arm, and Tirael dabbed a small amount of the cream on it. Nodding to Brookesong, he walked back over to the worktable and set down the bowl. Chances were he would need it soon anyways to redress somebeast's wound or fix a new one.

Brookesong wiped her paws and helped the little squirrel get off his bed. "Now why don't you pop on down to the kitchens and get yourself a scone... If they give you any trouble tell them that I sent you." As she watched him run off she yelled after his retreating figure "Don't forget to watch how you treat that paw... I don't wanna see you back here any time soon!" Then turning to Tirael, "Do ya need anythin' else?"

Tirael looked on fondly as the little squirrel ran off to the kitchens, his injury all but forgotten. He sighed happily; there was a reason he had taken this job.
"Do ya need anythin' else?"
Looking around the empty infirmary, he thought it over a moment and said finally, "Umm...I guess not really. I mean, if somebeast comes in for a new bandage, I guess, but I might be able to get someone else to do that. I dunno. Not right now." There really was no way of knowing, but if he did end up needing her...well, she wouldn't be too far, and besides, he knew others who could do in a pinch. "Unless you wanna come with me...I've gotta do my rounds, check on those who are still recovering." Shouldering his field bag, which he rarely ever had to use inside Camp Moss, he said, "'S up to you."

"Might as well... You'll need help, maybe we can take a few dibbuns off Vi and whoever else is dibbun minding's hands?" she asked mischievously. "They would be fascinated." Then grabbing a wad of bandages she set off skipping down the tunnels towards where the dibbuns were playing.

"They would be fascinated."
Tirael's eyelid twitched slightly as Brooke skipped out of the room. Somehow, he knew, this was not going to end well. Hurrying after her, he called, "Wait, Brooke, are you sure about that I mean...won't they get bored?" While he fully believed they would, he knew that meant they would find other ways to have fun...ways that meant disaster for him. How much could he take? He loved Dibbuns, but he bet it wasn't much.
It was too late, though. Tirael skidded to a halt to find a throng of Dibbuns around Violet and Brookesong. At his arrival, the group of happy young ones morphed to surround him, too. Though his arm was thankfully left untouched, his rudder was apparently too tantalizing to ignore; within moments, the free sleigh ride it presented was fully loaded, and the otter had to pull two Dibbuns along as he moved. Despite that little displeasure and the concern he had about their "shenanigans", he laughed along with them and smiled. "Well, if I was going to say no earlier, I guess I can't now," he muttered ruefully. But still a little worried, he looked up at Violet and said, "Uh, Vi? Could you come along too? I don't think I could handle them..." He looked at the two sitting on his rudder, evidence of that statement.

"Uh, Vi? Could you come along too? I don't think I could handle them..." He looked at the two sitting on his rudder, evidence of that statement. Brooke grabbed one of the dibbuns off of his tail a placed him on her shoulders. "So Tirael are we going to make this a full out field trip?" Then waving to Vi, "Well, get your bum in gear Vi!" She grabbed the two nearest young ones' paws and started walking as the skipped next to her babbling nonsense.
"Uh, Vi? Could you come along too? I don't think I could handle them..." He looked at the two sitting on his rudder, evidence of that statement. Violet looked at the other two who were working with her and when they gave their nodded approval, she followed Brooke's lead and grabbed two dibbuns. "Well Tirael, hurry up and don't dawdle! They want a ride!" she grinned cheekily. "Oh, and where to first?" she asked.

"Well Tirael, hurry up and don't dawdle! They want a ride!"
The otter gave Violet a withering look that practically dripped "Oh, hahaha, how funny", then smiled to the molebabe on his rudder. "Alright, ready?" At the Dibbun's excited nod, he set off at a good pace, sending the mole into squeals and giggles of delight.
"Oh, and where to first?"
"Uhh, the dormitories, that's where most of 'em are that I can check right now." Some beasts were healthy enough to continue their chores; others had simply ignored his pleas to rest and recover. Some, however, either hadn't or couldn't deny his order, and remained in bed, or at least resting. These were the ones he could check. Coming up to the first room, he said, "Alright, everyone? Everyone? EVERYONE?" He succeeded in catching the attention of three of the Dibbuns for a few seconds, and then was promptly forgotten for their little games and conversations. Sighing, the otter gave Violet a pleading look.

Brooke paused at the end of the tunnel to wait for Vi and Tirael. She slid down the tunnel wall to sit and play with them until everyone else caught up. She hummed a song under her breath and nodded her gratitude as a little mouse babe handed her a "glass of cordial". In return she offered the mouse a scone. They finally tired of this game and began pestering her for chesnuts and stories, so she obliged. Giving them each a chesnut, she began to tell them the story of Matthias the Warrior.
Violet looked over her shoulder and saw Tirael give her a withering look. Telling the dibbuns who she had been walking with to continue up the tunnel until they met up with Brooke, she turned around to grab the mole babe that was on Tirael's rudder and his pack.
"C'mon Tirael, let's catch up to the little rogues. Brookie's probably tellin' them a story and getting them sugared up with candied chesnuts." then glancing at him. "Why did you even agree to letting her bring them along?" she asked genuinely curious.

Tirael stifled a sigh of relief as Violet picked the molebabe off his rudder.
"Why did you even agree to letting her bring them along?"
Tirael shrugged. "I didn't intend to, but she kinda ran off before getting a 'yes' from me. I tried to tell her it wasn't a good idea, but by the time I caught up to her, she was already telling them they could come. 'Guess I didn't want to seem mean in front of the Dibbuns." Smiling fondly, he ruffled the mole's fur and looked up as they approached the large group gathered around Brookesong.
Tirael murmured, "They're distracted; maybe I can check on the first patient without them knowing," and slipped into the room as quietly as he could.

Brooke saw Tirael slip into the room out of the corner of her eye. "There, now you've had your story and chesnuts... What do you want to do now?" she asked. After a chorus of "Anuvver sto-y" she launched into the Tale of Rakkety Tam. She willed Tirael to need her or to come out quickly. She really wanted to get a move on.
Violet seated herself at the back of the crowd of Dibbuns and settled in for a bit of relaxation. She sighed with relief that they were all behaving themselves. A few times she did have to separate a group who continuously got a touch to into the story and began re-enacting it. She giggled to herself at how adorable they could be.

Fortunately, nothing was wrong with Tirael's first patient; he came out after only a few minutes. Smiling as he saw Violet settled in for story-time, he looked at Brooke. She seemed bored, and feeling bad for leaving her behind, he said, "Ready to move on? We've still got several creatures left to check." He hid his nervousness as several Dibbuns worked themselves into a frenzy. He hoped Violet could keep them under control...
[[Quite short, my apologies.]]

The dibbuns leapt up at the mention of moving on. Latching themselves onto her in various places, they begged to get going. Brooke made them promise to behave and walk like normal, civilized beasts or she will make them talk to Skipp. She lifted her head to the ceiling to hide her laughter as several Dibbuns became very solemn. Winking over their heads at Tir, she added "Or we could have Tirs give you some Physics..." Then she turned to him, "Who are we checking on next?"
Violet stayed towards the back of the mob and laughed at Brooke's attempts to be serious. She re-adjusted Tirael's medicine bag for about the umpteenth time. "What do you carry in here, it feels like I'm carrying the Infirmary!" she complained.

Tirael smiled as Brookesong threatened the Dibbuns with a "talk" with Skipp. He had never seen his father get mad at a young one before, except maybe Danol, and that was only because he would pester him until his ears fell off. Of course, the threat seemed to work, leading Tirael to assume that he had never seen this because the Dibbuns made sure it never happened. Or it might have while he was away. Who knew? Not him, certainly, though now he had something to ponder.
"Who are we checking on next?"
Rounding a corner in the hall, Tirael thought a moment and replied, "Uhh...Fogg, I guess." Fogg was a member of Skipp's crew, a particularly large specimen of an otter with a rather deep voice. He had taken multiple hits, but as always, seemed to be taking them remarkably well. However, it never hurt to check, and that was what Tirael intended to do.
"What do you carry in here, it feels like I'm carrying the Infirmary!"
Slowing until he was alongside Violet, the infirmary keeper took the satchel back and laid the strap across his own shoulder. It didn't seem that heavy; he had gotten used to it. "Well...you pretty much were, Violet. I can't ever know what's going to happen, I need to be ready for anything!" Even at the expense of my own back. Or Violet's, if I hurt my other arm. But then I can't eat... He filed that line of thinking away in his head. Unlike the notion Brookesong had given him, this one was rather pointless.
As the group came to the outside of the room, Tirael stood in front of the door and turned to face the gathered, who were mostly excited and impatient to go in. "Now, Mr. Fogg's not feeling so well, so I expect everyone to be quiet and polite, okay?" This was more for his sake than for Fogg's; the giant could probably still play with a thousand rowdy Dibbuns if he was wounded to within an inch of his life.

"Now, Mr. Fogg's not feeling so well, so I expect everyone to be quiet and polite, okay?" said Tirael as they got ready to look at their next patient.
Brooke pressed a paw to her lips just to hide a smile that was forming, she knew that Fogg loved Dibbuns and wasn't prone to whining about injuries. She couldn't suppress a small giggle though and she frowned at the dibbuns who had looked up at her. She grabbed two dibbuns and marched seriously in to see Fogg.
"Now, Mr. Fogg's not feeling so well, so I expect everyone to be quiet and polite, okay?" Violet snorted. Fogg loved dibbuns and injuries were second to dirt, he could care less. Even so, she knew that telling them that would save them a headache later, they just had to hope the Fogg would go along. Grabbing the bag back from Tirael, she said "You do realize I was joking. This is nothing compared to my two swords! Besides, the last thing you need is another injury. I don't think you would be able to eat if you got another one." she grinned at him.
