“Well, then.” Treble pull a loosely coiled strap from his belt. He bundled the finished javelins together and stood up, holding them easily under his arm. He tossed a similar woven strap to Tirael, and waited while the lad did the same with the pile of arrows. He headed off across the camp then, managing the awkward load easily enough.
“Skipp should get back soon.” Although he’d come to captain his own ship several times in the past, and had been called Skipp in his turn, he fell easily enough into the habit of calling the Skipper here by his title, reverting to his own name. After all, here he wasn’t in charge of anything, although some of the otters seemed to view him as some sort of second in command. Especially now that the former first mate had joined another tribe of otters, one in which he’d found his mate. Somehow, somebeast had decided he filled that void.
“’E’ll prolly wanta talk t’ye, though he’s not likely t’interfere with our bargain. Coupla days an’ ye’ll be able t’go or stay as ye please.”

“Well, then.”
Catching the strap that Treble had tossed him, Tirael wound it around the arrows he'd made. It was far less cumbersome a pile than the sea otter had to carry, being that it was a smaller quantity of more slender items. Once he felt that the arrows were secure, the river otter put the bundle under his own arm, unintentionally mirroring Treble (if this mirror shrunk one's reflection, anyhow). As Treble began to head deeper into the camp, Tirael followed, sticking close by his overseer as he glanced warily at the rest of the otter crew.
“Skipp should get back soon.”
That, Tirael had not expected to hear. He hadn't paid attention earlier when Jake and Garth had mentioned their Skipper, having been too busy struggling to break free; so until now, he'd assumed that Treble was their leader. He certainly acted like one, making ultimatums and generally acting authoritative without ever mentioning that he wasn't in charge around here.
The revelation induced a new unease in Tirael. As much as he wasn't thrilled with their current arrangement, he at least was being treated with some modicum of kindness. He had absolutely no idea what to expect from this Skipper. After all, the leader in a group of vermin was usually the strongest and most ruthless of the lot. Who was to say the same wouldn't hold true with otters?
“’E’ll prolly wanta talk t’ye, though he’s not likely t’interfere with our bargain. Coupla days an’ ye’ll be able t’go or stay as ye please.”
Not likely...but not impossible. If Tirael hadn't been considering alternative means of escape before, he certainly was now. He needed something to fall back on if Treble was wrong. "'Stay?' I don't think any of your friends would be too thrilled with that," Tirael scoffed distractedly. He certainly wouldn't be.

"Well, its not like ye took over Redwall and killed their families. In the scheme of things the loss of a little bread isn't high on their list of things to worry about."
Treble deposited the javelins amongst a pile of other weapons. It was just a simple lean-to, poles with pine branches over top to keep out the rain. There was more here than the residents of the temporary camp needed, but if there was one thing the sea had taught him, it was that you didn't wait for the pirates to burn down the holt before you armed yourself.
"I'm sure yore hungry. Its about mealtime." The bigger otter clapped Tirael on the back cheerfully and headed towards the center of camp.
((And Treb's out!))
