Tor glanced around as he walked. The old warrior that was his mentor kept the lead. He never could remember being near the River Moss, even though that he was born in Mossflower. His ears twitched as he followed behind, keeping a watchful eye.
The old warrior glanced back and him and chuckled before returning his gaze to the patch. Tor heard him though. Quickly placing his attention onto the old being, Tor titled his head.
"What's so funny?" Tor asked.
"You my young friend." the gruff voice of the warrior answered. "Too much vigilance won't be of aid."
"But not having any is just as bad." the warrior shook his head.
"One can be vigilant without looking in every direction. Eyes can play tricks. Listen."
Another lesson it seemed. Not that lessons were bad things, they were helpful things. Tor's ears twitched as he started to listen. It was rather quiet, most likely due to it getting closer to sunset. Made sense for everything to start to go quiet at this time.
After a few more minutes of wandering about, Tor and his mentor had found a small cave to take shelter in. After a small conversation, Tor had left the cave to get some firewood. It was going to be a cold night and the warmth of a fire would be nice. Besides, Tor didn't want to stay in a cave anyway. He wanted to explore a bit.

KayLee had been traveling along the river. It seemed as if it was forever since she traveled through Mossflower. But here she is once again. It may have taken a long while, but she had returned, coming full circle in her travels.
She doubted many, if any, would remember her from all those years ago when she stopped by on her travels the last time she was around these parts. Come to think of it, she wondered where everyone could be. Wasn't Mossflower suppose to be a busy place for travelers, woodlanders, and abbey dwellers? Maybe the tall tales, and rumours were true...
The squirrel-maid smiled, finally seeing another figure. "Hey!" She called over to the dormouse and she continued to walk toward him.

Tor heard the voice and he looked. Well he was surprised. On most of his travels, he had barely seen anyone else. Course he was grateful to see someone.
"Hello." Tor answered as he stood there.
(short. Sorry)

Kilo walked down the edge of the River Moss, occasinally reaching into the pocket of his longcoat to munch on a mixture of nuts and berries he gathered earlier that day. food was plentiful in Mossflower, but snacking only gets a beast so far, especially with the lack of meat. the fox paused and supported his weight on the glaive he carried, he heard voices ahead. his mind wandered to the incident with the otters when he first arrived in Mossflower. he held the long polearm low and crowched down, letting himself blend in with the surroundings, his mottled black and grey summer fur made him nearly invisible to the casual observer. cautiously, the Fox creaped closer to the voices origin. content to observe for now, but ready to run or fight as nessesary, but also mentally prepared to talk if things didn't turn out hostile.

"So this place isn't abandoned...I was starting to wonder where everyone was." KayLee stated as she approached Tor, close enough so they could comfortably converse instead of yelling at a distance, though still far enough to keep one's self safe. "KayLee." She said, offering her paw for him to shake.

"I don't live nearby, I've been traveling with my mentor. We just recently returned to Mossflower." Tor said.
Seeing the paw outstretched, her reached out and shook her paw. He didn't grip her paw hard, he held it gently as he shook it.
"I'm Tor." he answered as his small ears twitched, unaware of the fox who was getting closer.

oh gods, introductions... well, mice and squirrels seem to not hate each other. dosn't help me though. the boy's a warrior though, if he spots me hidden i'll be attacked for sure, better to take my chances
Kilo broke his camoflague and stood, slouching slightly. "ho travellers how fare ye?" Kilo swept his tail around his side, the dyed green tip perfectly visible, the fox leaned on his polearm trying to look nonthreatning

KayLee nodded at the dormouse. So he wasn't a wood-lander. It wasn't normal not to see a wood-lander up and about, least that was what it was like the last time she was around here. The squirrel-maid smiled as they shook paws. "Mentor, eh? Maybe he could figure out what's going on here." She said, with a tilted head.
She quickly turned at the fox's voice. It was pretty quiet around Mossflower. Not much going on, it seemed. KayLee didn't mind foxes. She'd often perform for them, and as long as she gets paid in some way, there was no trouble. "Farly well. You from around these parts?" She answered him. Perhaps he was from around here. He was able to depict them both a travelers.

Kilo breathed a sigh of relief at the squirrel-maid's friendly response, and loosened his grip on his glaive, though he was still wary of the male. "'fraid not lass, i be from so far north your saliva would freeze afore ye could spit." he paused, looking the two over again now that he was closer, his tail flicking from one side to the other absentmindedly. "dun suppose eaither of ye know where a sellsword might ply his trade would ye? peace is nice and all, but it makes me paws itch after a spell." the fox tried to smile politely, but only succeeded in giving a fang-filled grin, each tooth pointed and sharp.

Tor had no idea on how to react. The fox had appeared out of nowhere and before he could say anything, the two before him started a conversation. Tor really didn't think that he should stay due to that fact. So really, all he could do was stay quiet.
"Afraid I don't know." Tor eventually answered, even though his answer wouldn't matter.

KayLee sighed. Three travelers, yet no woodlanders or even Redwallers roaming around. She didn't come around Mossflower all that much, once in a blue moon, but based on her past experiences and the tales of creatures buzzing all over this place, she knew it was something out of the ordinary. Something definitely odd was going on around here.
"Nor I for that matter." She added to Tor's comment. "I, to am looking for hire." She said, though not mentioning what special talent she had that was for sale. "...Though it seems we're a tad late to the party." KayLee looked around for a moment. It seemed it was just the three of them, for now. "There's a lot of questions to be asked once we do find a woodlander 'round here. There's bound to be a least one, eh?"

Kilo nodded his understanding. "where i'm from, 'tis usually safer to travel in groups. mayhaps we'd both find what we seek. i've wandered these woods for a time, but found no roads, signs, or towns. if you know a place, i'd call it our best chance." he looked over to Tor "you've been quiet warrior, but i'd have your opinion. what do you think? i know not your goal, but an allied blade is always welcome." "it's another blade i needn't worry being on the wrong end of." he added mentally.

"I'm still in training Sir, I'm not a warrior." Tor answered. "I can take you two to my Mentor. It's up to him though. I have much to learn from him still, so I'm not leaving him plus he does need someone with him."
His mentor was strong but old age was becoming his burden. Even if Tor was a full warrior, he wouldn't leave his mentor behind. The creature had taken a chance with him and he was grateful.

"I've only been around here a few times." KayLee stated. "May as well have us stick together. Perhaps with the four of us, we can figure out what is going on around here. Where everyone went. It's just not normal for a place like this to be so...empty.." She said, looking around once more. "How's that sound?" She asked. "Four heads are better than one" She added. "Would your mentor mind the company, Tor?"
The squirrel-maid was intrigued by the fact that there was on one around, except for a few travelers. It was either something really good such as a big festival or something really bad like a massacre. She had hoped it was the former of the two.

"You carry a blade, and likely know how to use it to at least a basic degree. where i'm from, you're a warrior. i was still a kit when battle forced my paw." Kilo shifted his weight uncomfortably. "anyway, i'm good for grouping up. though i'd rather stay clear of any otters. it seems they don't like foxes much here. i'm called Kilo by the by." he decided to leave out that he was also called "the toxic fox" it wasn't info they needed to know.
"mentor that shouldn't be left alone? must be old or crippled. i'd like to meet a warrior so peerless as to be given such a luxury."
