Crissrea Monterien Fonsworthy was, fortunately, not completely lost. Only mostly. She had gotten turned around somewhere in the woodlands, had lost the path, found a stream, lost that again, and was finally going in, what she hoped, was the correct direction. She needed to get back to Salamandastron to report before heading any further north. In order to do that, she needed to locate the nearest landmark to point her in the correct direction. That landmark would be Redwall Abbey. If Criss could find that, she had hope of filling her empty haversack and journeying onward. Not for the first time during this long patrol (pun not completely intended) was she regretting turning down the offers for company on her quest. But her decision, whether wise or not, had been to go alone.
Now, however, as her stomach felt as if it was sticking to her spine, she chewed on the last of the hardtack that was in her bag, spitting out the gritty, hard parts, and composing a song as she went.
"Oooohhhh, if I were a tree, I would be,
Taller than the sky.
The birds would say, move out of the way,
We are trying to fly!
If I were a stone, I would lay alone,
And make friends with a mole,
But he would dig, and shove me with a twig,
Saying get out of my hole!"
As Criss reached spotted the Abbey, she smiled to herself and hurried forward, dropping the remains of the half eaten hardtack on the ground as she sang in a loud voice.
"But I'm a hare, so don't you dare,
Leave me out here to rot!
Me tum is loud, so do yerselves proud,
And feed this hare, wot wot!"
As her song ended, she banged on the main gate, trying to get any creature's attention who might be within.
