She held up a paw, stopping the ferret mid-mumble. "Ach, tae ease yer mind, good Keith," she said with a wink. "Ah believe yon Fenn dinnae wish tae wait longer fer a bonneh ride."
Keith flushed a little bit as the little black squirrel squealed in delight, bouncing around. Keith smiled a bit, "Yeah...anyway..." Reaching down, Keith tried to be as gentle as he could and lifted Fenn up on to his lap.
Keith always became a little nervous with handling fragile things like ceramic bowls, ink wells, small children..and so on. Keith had a firm grip, bu to do his work, Keith needed to have one. To do his carvings, Keith had to be firm and delicate to complete the intricate patterns. As a result, he didn't handle delicate things well, and he most certainly didn't want to hurt little Fenn. So Keith tried to be gentle.
Once Fenn was on the chair, Keith spoke. "Okay..Fenn, you hold on to the arm of the chair tight now...Don't want you flying off."
Reaching down, Keith gripped his wheels. He decided that he was just going to go up and down the path from the Main Gate to the Great Hall a couple times. Probably was safest.
Slow to start out, Keith pushed steadily toward the Main Gate. He wanted to hit the first curve slow. No sense in toppling the chair when he had a passenger.
But once Keith turned around at the Gate, he pushed hard on his wheels, going faster and faster down the path. He hoped Fenn was enjoying this. With a slight application of his breaks, Keith made a wide turn at the Great Hall and made another loop around, getting faster and faster until he applied the breaks.
The chair came to a slight jerking halt. It wasn't bad like it would toss Fenn out of the chair if he wasn't holding on, but a small jerk.
Panting a bit from the excursion, Keith smiled at Alne, hopefully Fenn like the ride...

"Okay..Fenn, you hold on to the arm of the chair tight now...Don't want you flying off."
Fenn did as he was told, giggling in excitement as Keith rolled his chair down the path. The little squirrel's giggles turned into delighted squeals, which turned into joyful yells as the ferret picked up speed. He continued to hold on tight to the arm of the wheelchair, despite his growing urge to raise his arms in the air.
Alne smiled as she watched Fenn and Keith as they zoomed down the path. She loved to see her little brother having a good time. Because of her duties in the kitchens, it wasn't often she got to spend the day with him, and today had just gotten better and better.
Fenn laughed aloud when the chair jerked to a halt. He spun around in his seat and hugged Keith's neck tightly, still laughing with glee. "That were tha funnest ever, Mr. Keith!" he cried. "Thank ya lots!" Alne approached the two, smiling warmly.
"Ye be a grand auld beastie, Keith," she said, for possibly the third time today.

Keith smiled, a bit out of breath from the chair ride, as Fenn laughed aloud. Seeing the smile on the little one's face made Keith happy. He didn't know what it was, but the Fenn's smile just made Keith feel more comfortable. It made him easygoing; it aloud him to leave his comfort-zone. To see a little one's smile.
The hug however, was a bit unexpected.
He spun around in his seat and hugged Keith's neck tightly, still laughing with glee. "That were tha funnest ever, Mr. Keith!" he cried. "Thank ya lots!"
Thrown off guard, Keith was a little shocked by the hug. Gingerly Keith gave little Fenn a light squeeze back. He didn't want to hurt the little squirrel, and the hug was a bit shocking, but the little one was laughing and smiling..."Uh..No problem Fenn..." Keith said with a slight smile.
"Ye be a grand auld beastie, Keith,"
Keith looked up and saw Alne who had approached his chair. Blushing, Keith couldn't stop smiling. "Aww...I'm not all that..."

Fenn pulled out of Keith's gentle embrace and hopped to the ground, practically beaming. He wanted to go again, but he wanted to know if it was okay with his sister. Alne's smile could rival her brother's.
Blushing, Keith couldn't stop smiling. "Aww...I'm not all that..."
Alne giggled. "A grea' humble beastie, too," she added, her tail flicking happily behind her. "Naow et be yer turn tae pick a somethin' tae play. Unless ye need tae get tae work." She didn't want her and Fenn to interrupt his working time anymore than they had.
((Gah, even shorter!))

Little Fenn pulled out of Keith's arms and Keith let go. The little squirrel seemed so happy, in fact, both squirrels seemed very, very happy. They had smiles on their faces and Keith smiled back. Alne giggled. "A grea' humble beastie, too," she added, her tail flicking happily behind her. "Naow et be yer turn tae pick a somethin' tae play. Unless ye need tae get tae work." "Well uh..." Keith stammered. Pick something to play? Keith hadn't played in a long time...What was he too..Wait? Play! Keith can play! Reaching back into his sack, Keith asked Alne and Fenn. "Well, you see with my chair, I don't play well....but I can PLAY music, if you wish to hear it that is..." ((Another short one but the next one should be longer, maybe ))

Fenn's wide eyes widened ever further as the ferret pulled out his instrument. Fenn adored music, especially lively jigs he could dance to. Alne loved it, as well, and she wondered if Keith knew any songs she could sing to.
"Well, you see with my chair, I don't play well....but I can PLAY music, if you wish to hear it that is..."
"Wheel, doon't ye leave us waitin', Keith," she urged. "Play 'til ye can't play nae more!"
"Yeah!" Fenn agreed, bouncing on his toes again. "Play some pritty music, Mr. Keith!"

Keith Splinterclaw pulled his violin. It was a beautiful carved instrument and Keith loved it very much. Placing the violin on his lap, Keith plucked the strings, checking to see if it was in tune. And like normal it was. Looking up, Keith saw the great big smiles on Fenn and Alne. "Wheel, doon't ye leave us waitin', Keith," she urged. "Play 'til ye can't play nae more!""Yeah!" Fenn agreed, bouncing on his toes again. "Play some pritty music, Mr. Keith!"Keith blushed. "All right...." He smiled and brought the violin up to his shoulder in the playing position. "Uhh..how about The Tails in the Trees?" With a brief strum, Keith quickly picked up a swift jig. It was a lovely tune, a high stepping dance with a lovely melody. Keith, although he didn't think he sang very well, picked up the tune. "Whistling through the trees all day, Off go the squirrels to play. Never have I ever seen such joy, Even a child with a little toy.
And the tails in the trees sway from side to side, Side to side, side to side. The tails in the trees sway from side to side, Side to side all day.
Jumping among leaves and trees Swinging from bough to bough with ease Go the squirrels so happily Make me laugh so giddily
And the tails in the trees sway up and down Up and down, up and down. The tails in the trees sway up and down, Up and down all day.
Birch and Maple, Ash and Oak, How I smile at these funny folk It's doesn't matter which tree they climb Nor does it matter what the time!
And the tails in the trees sway round and round Round and round, round and round. The tails in the trees sway round and round, Round and Round all day.
Side to Side! Up and Down! Round and Round! All day long!" With the final strum of the song, Keith lowered his violin, once again, a little out of breath, but happy. And he hoped his new friends were too...

As the merry jig played on, Alne and Fenn linked their arms together, spinning happily. Alne picked up the lyrics, mostly on the refrains, and after the verses Fenn just kept shouting, off-key, "Tails inna trees! Tails inna trees!"
At one point, Alne had picked her brother up and spun him around; her big bushy tail wrapped almost completely around her legs, but she didn't trip. Fenn continued his little chant, interrupted here and there only by his joyful laughter. When the song ended, Alne dropped to the grass beside the path, Fenn collapsing on top of her. Laughter rang out over the grounds from the two squirrels.
Wiping tears of mirth from her eyes, Alne looked up at Keith and panted, "Ach, ah nae can dance anymore! Ye are a grand auld musician!" Fenn tried to catch his breath, still giggling uncontrollably.
"Best . . . music . . . evar!" he exclaimed between breaths. His sister laughed again, rolling over onto her side. Fenn's smile could have gone twice around his face. "Play annuver one!" he pleaded.
((Seriously, if you just made that song up, it is totally awesome!))

As Keith played, he watched as the squirrels danced. They smiled and laughed, spinning and singing. At the end of his song they even fell over their own paws and laughed. Keith chuckled with them, they were so very happy. Wiping tears of mirth from her eyes, Alne looked up at Keith and panted, "Ach, ah nae can dance anymore! Ye are a grand auld musician!" Keith blushed. "Well..Alne..I'm..not.." "Best . . . music . . . evar!" he exclaimed between breaths. His sister laughed again, rolling over onto her side. Fenn's smile could have gone twice around his face. "Play annuver one!" "Umm... Okay." Keith put his violin back up to it's playing position. "Well, let's do a slower one...you two are both out of breath...uhhh...how about the Ballad of Tonks the Mouse? It's kind of funny..Or so I think anyways..." Strumming his violin once more, Keith picked up another bouncy tune with vigor. "This is the Ballad of Tonks the Mouse Who lived in the old moss-covered house All alone with his big eared spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse
Now Tonks was a very, very smart mouse And next to the river was his little house And every day you would hear his spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse
'Come on back, you old stubborn mouse! Get back over here to your house' Called Tonk's loud mouth spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse
Being smart, old Tonks the mouse Did not return to the old mossy house He ignored his cream furred spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse
Instead old Tonks, the crafty mouse Returned at night to his old warm house Bearing a gift for his wide eyed spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse
'This is yours,' said Tonks the mouse 'It's a new dress to wear in the house!' She was so giddy his happy spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse
Tonk was happy, the smart old mouse Who knew never to return to his house Without a gift for his old spouse Who always wore her big pink blouse!" Smiling Keith put his violin down again, hoping that his friend enjoyed his second song. ((Would it be bad if I said I was making these songs up on the fly? ))

Alne and Fenn laughed until their sides hurt. They were giggling so hard they couldn't speak for a few minutes. The song was funny, sure, but the two squirrels were still giddy from the morning's events. Finally, they were able to breath again.
"Ach, a grea' auld ferret ye are, Keith," Alne said, wiping her eyes as she found a nearby tree to lean against. Fenn still burst into giggles a few times.
"Ol' Tonks . . . Hee hee! . . . 'Is mate wears a big pink blouse!" the little squirrel giggled once more, then collapsed into his sister's arms, looking up at Keith with his big blue eyes. "An' 'e's a crafty ol' mouse!" Alne stroked her brother's head fur gently, knowing the little squirrel babe was weary after having so much fun. Though Fenn would deny it in an instant and jump right back up to dance or play some more.
"Th' summer be nae right withoot play an' music," she said, turning to Keith. "Doon't ye think so?"
((You ARE making these up?! That is awesome!!))

Keith couldn't help up but chuckle along with Alne and Fenn. They were laughing and it was very, very contagious. "Ach, a grea' auld ferret ye are, Keith," Alne said, wiping her eyes as she found a nearby tree to lean against. Blushing again, Keith fiddled with his violin. "Well..." He shrugged, looking away. He wasn't used to all these compliments from creatures and it made him flush, with pride, and, well, a bit embarrassment, but mostly joy. "Ol' Tonks . . . Hee hee! . . . 'Is mate wears a big pink blouse!" the little squirrel giggled once more, then collapsed into his sister's arms, looking up at Keith with his big blue eyes. "An' 'e's a crafty ol' mouse!""Yeah, he's a crafty old mouse al'right..." Keith chuckled. The little one was growing tired, he could tell. Picking up his violin, he gently put it back into his pack. "Th' summer be nae right withoot play an' music," she said, turning to Keith. "Doon't ye think so?"Keith nodded with a smile. "Defiantly. Any season would be amiss without music." ((Ooc: Hum... Just to me it seems like we are running out of topics and our characters are almost ready to split ways.. Not that I wish that to be if you still wish to post....))

"Soljahs!" Fenn exclaimed suddenly, leaping out of his sister's arms. His busy tail stuck straight up like a flagpole. "To ya posishuns!" He pointed dramatically to a stand of trees a few yards away and sprinted over, clambering up to the lower limbs. Alne sprang to her feet, winking at Keith as she followed Fenn. "Aye, captain," she called, climbing up after her little brother. "Has yon enemy been sighted?" Fenn glared out over the abbey grounds, scrutinizing it for any signs of 'attack.' He pointed at Great Hall, flailing wildly. "They's inflitrated da abbeys!" he shouted frantically. "Keith! Ya an' Alne's goin' to da front lines! I'll get da reinforces!" Alne jumped down from the tree with a flourish, saluting exaggeratedly. She went up to Keith, smiling. "Are ye willin' tae 'elp Captain Fenn purge yon vermin from Redwall?" ((How's that for a new topic? ))

"Soljahs!" Fenn exclaimed suddenly, leaping out of his sister's arms.Keith was startled as Fenn jumped up. His eyes widened, and his ears flicked back in fear. "To ya posishuns!" He pointed dramatically to a stand of trees a few yards away and sprinted over, clambering up to the lower limbs.Looking around almost franticly, Keith saw nobeast else in the near proximity. There were a few Abbey dwellers on the far side of the lawn, but no soldiers. Wait?...Was Fenn just playing? Alne sprang to her feet, winking at Keith as she followed Fenn. "Aye, captain," she called, climbing up after her little brother. "Has yon enemy been sighted?"Yes, Fenn was playing! Slumping into his chair with embarrassment, Keith looked away. "They's inflitrated da abbeys!" he shouted frantically. "Keith! Ya an' Alne's goin' to da front lines! I'll get da reinforces!"Keith looked up toward where Fenn was in the tree. "Huh? W-w-what?" She went up to Keith, smiling. "Are ye willin' tae 'elp Captain Fenn purge yon vermin from Redwall?"Keith shuttered. 'Vermin', do they always have to use that term around him? Do they? Plus the idea of fighting was not on the top of Keith's list. "Uh..no. Not particularly." Keith looked away uncomfortably. "I don't like.... 'vermin', and I particularly don't like..well.. fighting! I suppose I would try to do something if something was actually happening..but fighting...it's...it's not play. It hurts. And I'm sorry...I..I can't...." His ears twitching nervously, and his eyes downcast ashamed, Keith turned his chiar..."I probably should..go work...Fun time and all, but...I..I just can't play... this! I'm sorry.." ((Ooc: Nice! Unfortunately a touchy one for Keith, but makes good posting! ))

Fenn hung upside-down from a tree limb, his big eyes sad. "Awwwwww," he whined. "But we needs yore 'elp, Mistah Keith!"
"I probably should..go work...Fun time and all, but...I..I just can't play...this! I'm sorry.."
Fenn was about to whine again, but Alne covered his mouth with her paw, smiling at Keith in understanding. "Ah'course, Keith," she replied, mentally berating herself for using the word 'vermin'. "Ye finish yon bookends naow. Ah'm sure they'll be ri' bonneh works a' art, they will."
She pulled Fenn down from the tree, cradling him in her arms as she would an infant while he pouted. "Bu' sissy," he whined. "We need'a ge' rid a' da baddies!"
"We can ge' rid a' yon baddies withoot botherin' Keith," she said patiently. As she set him on the grass once more, Fenn raced over to the ferret, pleading in his eyes.
"Pritty please, Mistah Keith!" he begged. "Please play wif us s'more! We c' play annuver game! No fighting! Please!"
"Fenn!" Alne called. "Doon't bother Keith while 'e's workin'!" But her brother paid no heed.

Fenn hung upside-down from a tree limb, his big eyes sad. "Awwwwww," he whined. "But we needs yore 'elp, Mistah Keith!"
Keith looked up at Fenn, but he couldn't keep eye contact. Fenn looked so sad...Keith just couldn't do it. "I'm sorry Fenn..." He muttered quietly. "I can't play this game..."
"Ah'course, Keith," she replied, mentally berating herself for using the word 'vermin'. "Ye finish yon bookends naow. Ah'm sure they'll be ri' bonneh works a' art, they will."
Nodding sadly, Keith muttered again. "Yeah sure will...Sorry Alne..I-I'm sorry..." Pushing his chair gently down the path toward the Gatehouse. Keith didn't want to leave his new friends. He had been having so much fun! He could hear the two squirrels talking to each other and so wanted to be with them talking. But he just couldn't play that game. The memories were too painful....
"Pritty please, Mistah Keith!" he begged. "Please play wif us s'more! We c' play annuver game! No fighting! Please!"
"Fenn!" Alne called. "Doon't bother Keith while 'e's workin'!" But her brother paid no heed.
Keith stopped his chair as little Fenn rushed in front of him. He sighed, "Fenn...I want to play..Just not that game..no fighting games, okay?..."
