Alne smiled and shook her head. "Ye be nae trouble, mah friend," she assured him.

Keith looked down at his braced footpaws as Alne stepped behind his chair to help get him unstuck. No trouble, he thought to himself. If I was no trouble, then I wouldn't be stuck here now would I?

Sitting calmly, Keith didn't really flinch when Alne gave his chair a few quick jerks. He sat still, calm, a bit depressed, but calm. Slowly Alne wheeled Keith through the long grass and around more obstacles until they came to a small clear path of sand by the pond.

"There, naow," she announced, walking beside him once more. "T'weren't nae a burden tae 'elp ye oot."

Keith sighed and shook his head. "Yeah...Thank you Alne, really.." Keith really didn't want to tell Alne what was running through his mind. He knew he was a burden. He would be a burden for the rest of his days as long as he was confined to his chair. And the likelihood of him ever being able to walk again was slim to never, more to the latter then the former.

But trying to put on a cheery face, Keith slowly pushed himself over to where Fenn was digging. "Sorry 'bout that Captain Fenn. Have you found anything?"

"Yeah...Thank you Alne, really.."

Alne made to reply, but she noticed the morose tone in the ferret's voice. She bit her lip again, unsure of how to respond. She couldn't begin to understand how he felt, being confined to the wheelchair, having to depend on others just when his wheels got stuck. "Welcome," she murmured at last, avoiding his eyes.

When they arrived at the 'dig site', Fenn was waiting for them, tapping his footpaw impatiently. "Where yew bin?" he demanded. "I bin waitin' fur-evers!"

"Sorry 'bout that Captain Fenn. Have you found anything?"

"Wull, yeah!" the little squirrel replied, impatience fading into excitement. "I found th' green jewel!" He pointed to a rock about eight inches wide half-buried in the dirt at his footpaws. "If we dig it out, we c'n dig like moles and find th' other jewels rill easy!"

"Wheel, naow, less nae dally then," Alne declared, kneeling down and beginning to excavate the second jewel. Fenn turned to Keith.

"C'n yew docta-ment this wun, too, Mistah Keith?" he asked, helping his sister.

Keith also looked away. See! He was a burden. A pathetic paraplegic, and he hated it, but it was life and he just had to bite his tongue and fight through it.

"Wull, yeah!" the little squirrel replied, impatience fading into excitement. "I found th' green jewel!" He pointed to a rock about eight inches wide half-buried in the dirt at his footpaws. "If we dig it out, we c'n dig like moles and find th' other jewels rill easy!"

Keith smiled real big. "Oh wow! The green jewel!! This is a fantastic find! Great Digging Captain Fenn!" He replied trying to hide his disappointment from earlier by getting back into the game.

"Wheel, naow, less nae dally then," Alne declared, kneeling down and beginning to excavate the second jewel. Fenn turned to Keith.

"C'n yew docta-ment this wun, too, Mistah Keith?" he asked, helping his sister.

"Of course!" Keith pulled out the leaf and the little stick and began 'scribbling' away. "Green jewel found by Captain Fenn, south side of pond, location marked bellow. Ready to document!" He replied, watching Fenn and Alne dig for the rock.

Keith nodded. "It's wonderful!" Sure it was a simple rock, nothing special, but to a child, it was the greatest treasure and Keith was going to treat it as so.

Nodding, Keith began to 'sketch' the stone on his leaf. "Oh yes, I remember! We will be able to dig very well! But, I'm curious Captain Fenn, might we find some of the jewels in the trees or in the pond?"

Nodding, Keith began to 'sketch' the stone on his leaf. "Oh yes, I remember! We will be able to dig very well! But, I'm curious Captain Fenn, might we find some of the jewels in the trees or in the pond?"

Fenn paused for a moment, still carrying the stone. His expression seemed to go blank, but then one of his tall, tufted ears dropped back suddenly. He set the rock down and turned towards the pond.

"Wull, a'course," he replied hesitantly, as if he couldn't believe he hadn't thought of that himself. "Yeah, th' pritty purple one is in the reeds a' th' pond. We should go find it now." He strutted off in the direction of the pond, his ears perking up like usual.

Alne chuckled and turned to Keith. "Bonneh idea, thar, Recorder Keith," she said with a wink, starting off after her brother. She walked at a leisurely pace, obviously in no hurry, for it didn't seem like Fenn knew where he wanted to go. He circled the big pond once at top speed, and then he started at a slower walk, diving into the reeds and emerging mere seconds after, shaking his little head.

Keith finished his 'sketch' of the rock as Fenn reacted to what he had asked. Apparently Fenn hadn't thought so far ahead as to the locations of the other jewels. The little squirrel had a blank look on his face and slowly set the stone he was holding down.

"Wull, a'course," he replied hesitantly, as if he couldn't believe he hadn't thought of that himself. "Yeah, th' pritty purple one is in the reeds a' th' pond. We should go find it now."

"Yes sir!" Keith nodded with a smile. "Not sure how much help I'll be, but I can be a look out!" Keith put his 'drawing' implements in his lap and began to follow Fenn as he traversed about the edges of the pond.

Alne chuckled and turned to Keith. "Bonneh idea, thar, Recorder Keith," she said with a wink, starting off after her brother.

Keith chuckled as he pushed along. Pushing on the slightly damp sand near to the water was easier then on the grass. The ground gave a bit of s struggle, but wasn't horrible, so Keith could keep pace with Alne's leisurely pace.

Pausing for a brief breath of air, Keith watched as Fenn, after racing around the pond, began diving among the reeds, not finding much of anything.

Keith rolled as close as he felt safe to the water and looked in. On this side of the pond, the bank was fairly wide and the water lapped up calmly. Under the water, the bank had a gradual decline it appeared, until one point where it dropped off. On the gradual decline Keith could see small stones that littered the sand.

Pointing at a rock that from his angle, looked a bit like a gray maple leaf, Keith called to Fenn. "Oh Captain Fenn? Is this stone it? It looks like it could be!"

((Gah! So late on this!! I'm so sorry! Classes just started, and I've been obsessed with this other RP site in my free time. So sorry!))

Fenn hurried over, wading into the shallows to where Keith was pointing. He jumped up and down, splashing eagerly. "Yeah! Tha's it!" he cried, excited as he made to grab the stone.

Alne was right behind her brother, making sure he didn't slip off into the deeper parts. She knelt in the shallows next to him, keeping her bushy tail high above the water. "Ach, Keith, an' yer a gem," she said, picking up the stone reverently. Fenn's eyes sparkled as bright as the imaginary jewel as his sister held up the rock for both of them to see.

"Keith's the best explora ever!" Fenn shouted, bouncing up and down in the water and splashing the two older beasts. "I don't needs ya t' help me no more, sissy, I gots Keith!" Alne wiped off her wet fur and tugged playfully on one of Fenn's ears.

"Ye wee rascal," she chuckled. "Naow is that any way tae speak tae yer belov'd sister?" Fenn grinned cheekily, grabbing for the stone. His sister held it just out of reach, winking at Keith. "Sir Keith, ah believe yer artestry be needed in recahrdin' a' this jewel."

The little squirrel rushed over to the spot to which Keith was pointing. Ecstatic, Fenn began jumping up and down in the shallow water, splashing Keith's braced footpaws a bit.

"Yeah! Tha's it!" he cried, excited as he made to grab the stone.

"Ach, Keith, an' yer a gem," she said, picking up the stone reverently.

Keith smiled as he watched as Alne helped Fenn take the small stone out of the water. Because of the water's magnification, the stone was actually smaller than originally expected. The maple leaf shaped stone was actually about the size of Fenn's small paw.

"Keith's the best explora ever!" Fenn shouted, bouncing up and down in the water and splashing the two older beasts.

"Ack!" Keith cried out comically as he help up his paws, blocking the water from his face. For a little beast, Fenn sure had a big splash!

"I don't needs ya t' help me no more, sissy, I gots Keith!" Alne wiped off her wet fur and tugged playfully on one of Fenn's ears.

"Captain Fenn!" Keith put his paw to his chest in mild shock. "Of course we need your sister! Who else would be the marvelous head chef of this expedition!"

"Ye wee rascal," she chuckled. "Naow is that any way tae speak tae yer belov'd sister?" Fenn grinned cheekily, grabbing for the stone. His sister held it just out of reach, winking at Keith. "Sir Keith, ah believe yer artestry be needed in recahrdin' a' this jewel."

Winking, Keith once again took out his leaf and twig and began 'sketching' the stone. "Right away! Most assuredly an excellent find!"

Alne laughed, still holding the stone out of Fenn's reach. "Naow we hear sense," she said, nodding to Keith. "Ach, an' ah do believe yon recarhder doth appreciate mah services."

Fenn huffed in frustration. "Aw, sissy, yore holdin' tha jool up too high!" he protested, reaching up for it. "I wanna see it!"

"Right away! Most assuredly an excellent find!"

Fenn ceased clambering up his sister's dress and turned back to Keith with a big grin. "Yew haven't even seen tha rainbow wun, yet, Mista Keith!" he exclaimed. "It's got all tha colors of tha ovver jools, an' it's rilly big, too, lots bigger'n tha over ones. But we gotta find tha ovver jools first afore we can find tha rainbow one."

Keith winked and smiled at Alne as she toyed with her little brother. A chuckle escaped his lips as Fenn struggled to get the stone.

Fenn huffed in frustration. "Aw, sissy, yore holdin' tha jool up too high!" he protested, reaching up for it. "I wanna see it!"

"I'm sure if you ask politely Captain Fenn, your sister will let you see it." Keith chuckled, his bright emerald eyes glittering with hidden laughter.

Fenn ceased clambering up his sister's dress and turned back to Keith with a big grin. "Yew haven't even seen tha rainbow wun, yet, Mista Keith!" he exclaimed. Keith chuckled. Young Fenn's energy was surely endless. It was so much fun actually playing for once! Ever since Keith was wheel-chair ridden, playing was pretty much over for him. Instead of playing, Keith buried himself in his wood working and his violin. Thinking about that, wasn't he supposed to be working on something?..That's right! The bookends!

"We's gonna find all da jools, right, Mista Keith?" he called, grinning widely at the ferret. "I bets we find all dem t'day!"

His crooked tail twitching slowly, Keith looked down at his lap. Keith was tired and he knew it. He was tired, did have plenty of work to do too. But, what about Fenn and Alne? Keith didn't want to disappoint his new friends!

But Keith knew that when he was tired, he wouldn't be much fun to play with. Looking up at Fenn, he smiled wearily. "I'm sure you will Captain Fenn, but I'm afraid this is where I have to leave our adventure. Although it sounds like fun," Keith patted the arm of his chair with a black 'mittened' paw. "This old thing won't let me go too many places, and I have another adventure to attend to. You find the jewel's Captain Fenn, then when you are done, you can bring them to me and we can record them then okay?"



((Ooc: I like this thread too Jan. However, I think we may just end up repeating ourselves and having a hard time coming up with what to do next. I hope this post gives us a way to continue to post with these characters with a new thread line so we can expand and have fun. So if we want to continue posting we can, just skipping a while.))
