Eastpaw took a drink from his canteen, then took a few shadowboxing steps. He cast about for his brother, but failed to see him in the confusion of hares. Probably lurking about playing tricks. He smiled, chuckling a little. Some beasts never grew up, but then not all beasts had to. They were the perfect team, 100% unstoppable, boxing or having fun. He could hardly wait to see what Southpaw had cooked up, but he bet Lady Ryn could. The closer they got to this Camp Moss, the edgier she got. Spying the Lieutenant Colonel come towards him, he stood on his toes, bouncing a few times to loosen his muscles. No doubt he'd be sent galloping.
The tall boxing hare munched a bit of travelers bread as he loped slowly towards the place he'd been told the patrol would stop. He'd go in, report, and then go see if he could find Southpaw. He had to have been up to something this morning, otherwise he wouldn't have disappeared so thoroughly at their last stop. Rustling sounded, and Eastpaw's ears stiffened. He swung around, paws at the ready. "Alrighty, chap or chapess, show yourself sharpish, wot!"

Hunger blocked Estlin's normal act of sneakiness. He wasn't so interested in being scary, wasn't even interested in putting on an honest fight... he was interested in eating. Truth be told the wildcat still looked a bit bad off, although his strength had come back and he'd eaten a few times sense his fasting he was still noticeably slim and bit withered.
But Estlin was made for moments like this, survival moments. Unlike most beasts who at their most desperate points became scattered and unable to do even the simplest actions Estlin's desperation bred only victory. It had never failed him. It dulled his sense or pain and intensified his eagerness to win. Desperation had long been Estlin's best weapon.
He wasn't worried when the hare noticed the movement he'd made. He waited a moment after the creature spoke, sizing it up, taking into account the fighters stance... what good was a hit without claws? What a silly beast.
The wildcat would waste no more time. He slunk back, lowered himself down very low and carefully unlatched his spear from his back and let it fall to the ground before he moved... extra weight was never a good thing. The he sprang, propelling himself forward he reached out with his claws, his dagger adorned paws would be the first thing to reach the unfortunate hare.

"Woah!" Eastpaw, seeing only a large dark shape springing out of the bushes at him, ducked instinctively, side-stepping and swaying his long frame away from the creature, he now saw, was easily Lady Ryn's size. With claws and teeth that obviously meant business. His body compressed more to the side as he touched the ground with his forepaws and used the coil to strike back at the big cat with his powerful legs, aiming for the coiled form of Estlin. One look at that cat and he knew. Death awaited him, but he would not go quietly.

Estlin shot past the hare and landed, already half turned, on the ground. A flurry of fallen leaves and twigs rose behind him as he turned back, growling through a wide fanged snarl. He was mildly dissapointed that his first attempt at killing this hare wasn't going to be his last... but he was not at all intemidated.
The hare shot forward, making a quick comeback in the form of a kick. Estlin recoiled and raised up on arm, slicing towards the kick with the razor edge of his gauntlet as he found his bearings on the situation. He tried to keep his growling low, though it was mostly out of his control he didn't want to be stumbled upon by some other woodlander in the midst of finally finding a good meal. He wanted this one to go as smoothly as possibly.

Lightning struck up Eastpaw's leg, and he withdrew with a hiss of pain. Red and black played havok with his vision, but he bounced up, adrenaline pumping and enabling him to ignore the lancets of pain on his left paw, sliced quite deeply. He limped on it.
"Nevva mess wi' a boxin' h'are o' Salamandastron, laddie!" Eastpaw admonished the cat, dancing back and forth on his footpaws. He eyed the gauntlets and claws, making several faking maneuvers. He darted in, his sharp eyes on the alert. He dodged in close for a few punches at the cat's wind and chin, then danced back, all thoughts of his injury excluded from his brain, which had narrowed to the simplicity of staying alive.

"Nevva mess wi' a boxin' h'are o' Salamandastron, laddie!"
Estlin chuckled, raising from where he'd handed in a crouch to stand at full height. "Laddie," he repeated with a smile. "Yew'll not feel so well 'bout those words soon 'nuff."
The hare darted forward, moving with enough speed to almost cause Estlin to lose his concentration on his prey... but not quite. Estlin let one punch connect with his chest before he swung his arms around, slicing at Eastpaw as the Hare bounced away again. He stepped back on one foot paw and then used it to push forward.
He step first to the side, opposite of the one Eastpaw had darted to, but then instead of following the Hare's dizzying dance Estlin planted all four paws to the ground and watched as Eastpaw shot into the air for another move. While the Hare was still airborne Estlin rushed him, keeping a bit to the back of him he leaped forward and slashed his claws out towards the side rather then straight on, hoping to catch the Hare's back and get a good enough hold on him to be able to strike again and finish his hunt.

"Laddie," he repeated with a smile. "Yew'll not feel so well 'bout those words soon 'nuff.""
Eastpaw tread lightly on his toes, watching the big cat. "Oh, I get it." the hare said casually "Predatory type, aren't you? Eat other creatures, wot! Nasty h'abit, doncha know, old chap. Somebeast you eat might give you a bally ol' toothache, wot wot!"
Eastpaw suddenly leaped up high, kicking out his foot-paws at Estlin's chest, but-the cat was no longer there. Eastpaw arched his back with a scream as Estlin's claws scored across his back. He fell, and rolled of this back to get his foot paws under him and stand, staggering drunkenly as the deep gashes bled freely where they were not stopped up with leaf matter and dirt. "Is... that all you got... kitten?" He gasped air that had deserted him when he landed back into his lungs.

Estlin struck the ground with his footpaws just as his claws stuck and dragged across the hare's back. He whipped around sharply as the Hare whirled and fell onto the ground. The wildcat's tail lashed out behind him as he took a moment to compose himself and watch the hare flip back up to stand.
He ignored the words, Estlin was past speaking. All that mattered now was action. He moved forward again, as Eastpaw wobbled unsteadily on his injuries the cat calculated his next move.
He reached one one bloodied paw towards Eastpaw's shoulder, ready to snag the flesh and hold the hare in place for his final blow. He cocked his other arm back and then swung forward, claws aimed for his prey's neck and throat. A grim smile spread over Estlin's face, it was always so much easier when they stuck around to fight rather then just running off.

Eastpaw knew he wasn't going to survive this encounter, and he regretted all he had yet to do in his life, but he still wasn't lying down to die. He'd fight all the way to dark forest's gates.
"Euulaliaaaaaaaaaaa!"
He charged with a mad light in his red eyes, a dagger in one paw as he rushed to embrace his deathly foe. Long Patrol hares are perilous right unto the end, and Eastpaw was no exception as he brought his arms together around Estlin, still gripping his dagger, the only weapon he had besides his paws.
"Eulaliaaa--aggh..." He shouted again, choking as claws found his throat and dug in, cutting off his wind. Red and black spots danced before his eyes, swirling and joining together as he sank into silent darkness that enfolded him and welcomed him in.

Estlin's ears flicked back as the Hare screamed out his last words. Did these beasts have to be so loud all of the time? Annoyed Estlin left his claws stuck in the hares neck as the creature died and then flung the body away from himself, into a tree.
An ugly crack filled the clearing that even made Estlin cringe a bit. He stood calmly, glancing over the bloody scene he had caused. One bloodied paw pressed against his chest where Eastpaw had hit him, leaving a crimson print on his fur. He cracked his neck sideways and rolled his shoulders, relaxing and relishing the win before continuing.
He strolled calmly to the body and dragged it upwards. He glanced about, knowing full well that a large group of these creatures was not far away. His hunger was great and he didn't want to be interrupted so it was best to make a safe move and not stay in the blood stained area. He pulled the body to a tree, slung it over his back and made launched up the tree and into the shadows of the leafy coverage.
