"Daddy Daddeeee!" A young otter kit stood from where she had been crouched and raced across the clearing to present her cupped paws. Her father bent down, peering with an engaged curiosity at the creature she revealed within.
"Why, wote'er is that?" He proclaimed solemnly and with the utmost attention. The kit wrinkled her nose, mischief sparking in her eyes. "Itsa cadapiller, Daddy!" She announced, with a tone that suggested her elder must be getting silly. "See? I found it by tree ova there!" she swung around, paws now closed gently again, to point at the gnarled tree.
"Well by me rudder, so 'tis, Tam!" Tagyr said with some relief, "How silly o' me. We should let it go now, though." Together the otters walked back to the tree, where Tam carefully replaced the 'cadapillar' exactly where she found it, for "'ow else will 'e find where 'e's going?" She pointed out quite seriously. Her father merely smiled and nodded, his eyes full of life and love for his daughter.
"Hey ye know what, kiddo?" He asked his kit, advancing on her. She giggled, dancing away.
"No what!"
"I'm gonna get you!" He lunged forward, fingers wiggling to tickle her.
"Nooo!" She squealed with laughter, dancing away again. The happy pair spent quite a while at this before collapsing on the grass, giggling and laughing like hyenas.
