Physical Description:
Odysseus is a tall handsome rouge of an otter. He is fairly tall, but nothing too big, maybe an inch or two taller than the average otter. And his shoulders are wide, but not monstrously large. Overall, his proportions are equal throughout his body; evenly muscular all the way around and little body fat.Belongings:
His fur isn't too thick, but neither is it extremely thin. It's is however, rather crusty like most sea otters. His fur is a dark brown all over with golden caramel highlights, almost like his fur is sun-touched and heavily windblown. It sticks out all over the place, giving him a roguish look, or so he thinks. The only part where his fur isn't as healthy as the rest is his rudder. Having suffered from some rather nasty burns when he was younger, the fur on his rudder is "patchy" and from time to time it molts. Some spots are thinner than others, and some are wiry instead of thick, but the fur is growing back very slowly.
His eyes are a soft golden hue mixed with brown flexes. They are soft, but they are searching, it's like, like he already knows everything. They are very knowing eyes, but when he is serious, questioning, his eyes are hard and unmoving.
Odysseus is commonly found in two outfits.
His normal day to day outfit is a green and black jerkin. It is one shirt, but the black is sewn like it is a vest and he has leather ties down the front and sides. ( Link to pic. )Odysseus also has a black belt with a sliver buckle that he wears to accompany the jerkin. He also constantly wears a black leather hat. It has a cilinder like top, a thin brow in the back and a large brow in the front that comes out to a point. ( Link to pic. ) When he travels in this outfit (or in any outfit for that matter) he wears a light, but warm black cloak with silver clasp. ( Link to pic )
His dressy-er outfit is similar to his normal day outfit. But his jerkin is made of a lighter material and is a royal blue in color with gold embroidery.
Being a wanderer, Odysseus tries to keep his load light. Many of the things that are in his large pack are temporary. Like food, maybe a blanket, some rope, and evidence from his investigations. He does however always have on his person, his looking glass, his notebook, and his weapons.Personality:
Odysseus has an old fashioned magnifying glass that he calls his "lookin' glass". It has a metal handle and frame. He was given it by a blacksmith he solved a case for a long time ago. ( Link to pic. ) It is one of his favorite tools to use during his investigations. It allows him to find the finite clues that may help him find the truth.
Odysseus is never found without his notebook. It is brown leather bound and he writes everything down from his investigations. Every clue he finds, every creature he meets and every word they say because anything could be a clue. He is also a brilliant sketch artist. ( Link to pic. )
Odysseus is also a talented warrior. His broadsword and matching knife are his only weapons. His blade, which hangs at his left side, is a long silver sword with an even blood line. The cross tree hilt is a simple dark iron, the hilt a polished oak pattern, and the pommel the same dark iron. It has no stone to adorn it. Odysseus really didn't have much of a choice in decoration as the blade was given to him by his father, but he cherishes it just the same. ( Link to pic. ) His knife is the same style and make of his sword.
Odysseus is a crafty and witty otter. His mind is always spinning with new ideas and questions. His curiosity instinct often appears to be on overdrive. He is always getting his nose into something. And often, it's not where he is supposed to be, and he suffers the consequences.History:
But Odysseus never stops searching. His drive for finding the truth often will come before his thought of personal safety. Sure he is a kind and honorable otter who is very polite and chivalrous, but when he hunts for the truth, nothing gets in his way. He will find the evidence to convict the perpetrator, there is no doubt.
Odysseus also has an astounding memory and passion for books. He believes that one will never stop learning (a trait he inherited from his father), so he keeps on studying.
Odysseus has a high sense of honor. He does not charge prices for his work as a PI. He does not want to charge creatures fro something he does willingly for the joy of it. Plus, he prefers to have a sense of humility about himself. He will not take more than he needs when offered.
Strengths:
~ He is smart and a brilliant planner
~ He is fairly talented with his blade
~ He is a talented writer and sketch artist
~ He has well tuned senses (hearing, taste, touch, smell, and sight)
~ He has a fine memory
Weaknesses:

~ He has an uncontrollable curiosity ("curiosity killed the cat")
~ He will often ignore his personal health to find the truth
~ He has a bad childhood memory of large fires
Odysseus Landon Stormracer was born on a calm fall morn' to Halvard Keaton and Pamela Kaylin Stormracer. He joined his older brother Hector Emilio(3) and sister Helen Eloise(2). They were a happy little family that lived in a well sized village on the Eastern Sea that had a large diversity of creature living there and many that passed through the dock-side town.Code Words: CORRECT
Halvard was avid reader and has his own bookstore in the little village along with being the village record keeper. His family, who helped run the store with him, lived above the store. So Odysseus grew up surrounded with books. Every night, (or as much as possible) the children gathered around the fireplace in the shop and Halvard read to his family from one of the many books in the store. Odysseus especially loved the nights when his father chose mystery stories. Odysseus would always have the answer to the problem before his father finished the story, but he would still have questions. Why didn't the hero do it this way? He would have found more evidence. Could the hero have done this and caught the criminal sooner?
It was that same questioning mindset that sparked Odysseus's curiosity. He wanted to know why. Even as a youngster, Odysseus was found sticking his nose into where it was not wanted. At the age of 6 he caught a thief who was shop lifting from the store across the street, and at the age of 8 he revealed the creature that was behind the midnight vandalism of the docks. Not long after that, Odysseus was known all over the village for his amazing detective skills.
His brother and sister were not has nosy as Odysseus was. Hector was a record keeper like their father. He eventually overtime would take over his father's position and run the store. Helen, a very pretty young otter maid and fancied by many of the other otter boys in town, was a healer at heart. She hated seeing anyone hurt and was very talented with herbs and bandages. Halvard and Pamela were very proud of the names their children were making for themselves.
Odysseus, however, never lost his child-like curiosity, and once it got him close to death.
An old hedgehog smith, friend of Halvard's and a well respected member of the community was murdered one night in his forge. Odysseus(13), mad at how somebeast could just take the life of an innocent like that, was determined to find the killer and bring them to justice. His hunt for clues brought him to an old barn on the edge of town. Having snuck out at night, he was alone when he entered the barn. In the barn, Odysseus found the murder weapon, a small dagger that belonged to a crew member of a visiting ship, but he wasn't alone. Odysseus quickly discovered that the murder was still in the barn!
Before Odysseus could do anything, the murder had kicked over a lantern, starting fire amidst the dry hay, and run out of the barn, locking Odysseus inside. Struggling to breathe amidst the smoke and trying to find a way out Odysseus yelled for help. Thankfully, his family had been out looking for him and saw the fire from afar. With Pamela and Hector gathering the villagers to help put out the fire, Halvard heard his son's cries from inside the barn. Busting down the door, Halvard pulled Odysseus from the flames. Helen immediately went to work on her unconscious brother as the villagers put out the fire before it spread. His rudder had been burned and he had passed out from smoke inhalation, but in his paw was the still bloody murder weapon.
Waking up in his bed a day later, Odysseus told his family the entire story and who was responsible. Halvard, slightly angry with his disobedient and reckless son, told the governing council of his son's discovery and the perpetrator was found guilty and punished. Odysseus did not go without punishment was well. He was "bedridden" for 3 days and grounded for another 4. His rudder, though burned wasn't as bad as it could have been. It was splotchy with patches of missing fur, but Helen was sure that the fur would grow back eventually.
Odysseus was the hero of the town, after his grounding, there was a surprise party held in the town square. (It had to be a surprise, otherwise Odysseus would have refused.) He was also subject to another punishment. (although he didn't really see it as one). His father forced him to learn how to use his broadsword. Halvard knew that if Odysseus was going to continue in this line of work, that he was going to need a way of defending himself. So Odysseus was taught how to swordfight and he caught on very quickly, surpassing his father in more ways than one.
However, common village life didn't sit comfortably with Odysseus as he grew older. He longed for new adventures, new things to discover, and new mysteries to solve. At the age of 20, (after his sister's wedding) he left the village with a big surprise farewell ceremony put on by his family.
So Odysseus set off. From time to time he would return to this home to see his parents, siblings. And his nieces and nephews, but his curiosity always got the better of him and he would be off again ready for a new case of intrigue and mystery....
