Your character's full name: Vrelt Darkfang
Age: 28 Years
Species: Ferret
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Vrelt is taller than the average ferret, around 6'2''. He is well built, taking extreme care to insure he is in top physical condition. The ferret has many scars, many of which are on his forearms, from the slashes of swords. Though it is hard to see most of them, due to the fact that from his wrists up to his shoulders, his arms are covered with tattoos. They reveal a mixed background, from the corsair tattoos of fire lacing up his forearms, to the markings on his upper arms that clearly reveal his travels in the Northlands.
The ferret has icy blue eyes, strangely like the cold place he was from. Vrelt's fur is the same color as the normal ferret, perhaps a bit thicker than average as well. Despite the way most of his kind maintain themselves, he takes pride in keeping his fur clean and in place. And the ferret doesn't dress too shabby either. Throughout his travels, Vrelt acquired clothes that he considers "barbaric finery." He wears tall, black sea-boots that have seen better days, navy blue corsair pants that look relatively new. The ferret also wears a black tunic, and over that he has a piece of light armor to protect his chest. To top off his outfit, Vrelt has a heavy, dark gray jacket with multiple pockets inside it, to conceal some of his weapons.
Belongings:
Vrelt carries most of what he owns with him. Which includes his clothes, a concealed dagger that has an emerald embedded in its hilt. His primary weapon is a sturdy, curved saber that also has an emerald in the hilt; a weapon he gave up much to acquire. The ferret's other belongings are stored away in an isolated cave in the North, that he sometimes called home.
Job or Position:
Mercenary and bounty hunter for hire.
Personality:
Many beasts have become Vrelt's enemies over the years, some of them because of being bested in combat by the ferret, others because he tore down their egos with his sharp tongue. He is notorious in the North for being a skilled beast with a blade, one who has built up a reputation of beating any foolish enough to challenge or attack him. It's strange that he doesn't have the same reputation for killing his opponents, most of time he allows whomever that challenges him to live. He has been taunted for being soft, a mistake nobeast has been able to live through. Vrelt sticks to his own code of honor, always giving an enemy the chance to surrender, but not holding back to end their life if the enemy doesn't withdraw.
The ferret is relatively calm, easily keeping his cool under pressing circumstances. He finds it quite simple to take command over other beasts; that, along with his intelligence, make him a natural leader. Vrelt likes to talk, many have told him he talks too much, and he very well knows that; it has gotten him into fights throughout his life. The ferret will put on an easy smile toward just about anybeast, though most of the time, it's just for show. He sometimes works as a bounty hunter, and having such talents such as masking emotions and not responding with outbursts of anger help him to always get his quarry.
History and Background Information:
Vrelt was born in the Northlands, a region that makes its inhabitants stronger than normal, if they survive, of course. He wasn't born into a caring family, just one that cared enough to keep him alive and teach him enough to survive once he left. His parents were a couple of thieves, no more than simple vermin that did nothing to rise above the reputation ferrets have. They often argued, leaving Vrelt to fend on his own for long periods of time, but he always made it through the freezing nights, dreaming of the life of his grandfather.
His grandfather was an infamous corsair that terrorized the seas before Vrelt was born. Vrelt's father told many stories, most of which were about the exploits of the dangerous corsair. The tales of adventure and exploration drove the young ferret to dream of leaving the life that his parents led and trying to become just as notorious as his grandfather. Vrelt left home as soon as possible, at age fifteen, leaving the Northlands on a ship bound toward the south, toward warmer lands.
The young ferret worked hard on the ship, making a name for himself amongst the crew, gaining favor that would allow him to take command of the ship. That day came when the current captain was mortally injured in a raid on a coastal settlement, after which, Vrelt took command. The ferret was seventeen when he became captain, and he began to make a name for himself throughout the seas, becoming quite a feared pirate himself.
For six more years he sailed around, plundering whatever he could, until he amassed enough money to call it quits. He left the ship, intent on starting a new life on land. Vrelt started by spending a large amount of his money on an extremely well built saber, a sword that would become his primary weapon. He quickly got to work yet again, this time learning all he could about fighting on land, becoming a mercenary for hire. Soon the ferret had a small band of beasts following him, after hearing of his exploits at sea and learning of his grandfather's reputation. He took some jobs as a hunter, but only when he needed extra money. Vrelt and his band moved farther south, to the land of Mossflower, where they stayed neutral in struggle that occurred over Fort N'ashi. The pickings were better here, and the crew set up a camp just off of the River Moss. Vrelt was interested in what went on around him, but for the most part, he stayed away from conflict, though nowadays, he has been debating whether or not to work alongside Redwall, in the rebuilding work.
