Appearance:
Alecsander 'Alex' RidgebeckAge: 23
Species: river otter
Gender: Male
Appearance:
A big otter, Alex takes much after his father in bulk and strength. However, he is all his mother in coloring, with his reddish fur and green eyes. He and Fern are so alike in this that even though she is slim and short and he is tall and burly, it is obvious that they are siblings.Belongings:
Alex wears a brown kilt and a blue vest. He carries a sharkskin sling and a javelin, which he slings in a special carrier across his back. He also wears a sharkskin belt, on which he has several medium-sized pouches.
A woven green and white bracelet adorns his left paw, courtesy of Fern. He also has two brass earrings in his right ear, and a twisting copper tailring, his going-away present, also from his sister.
Clothing on his back, one sling, one javelin. A fishing knife in a sheath at his ankle.Job or Position:
Wandering warrior. Currently in search of his sister, Fern.Personality:
Alex is a vibrant and outgoing personage, everything he does is loud, enthusiastic, and wholeheartedly animated. He makes friends easily, and even people who have merely a passing acquaintance with can’t help but feel as if he’s one of their close friends. He seems to draw vitality from a group, but being alone does not seem to bother him unduly.History and Background Information:
He's fiercely protective of his little sister, and more than a little disturbed that he returned home from his wanderings almost a year ago and she was gone. In his search for Fern he has become more silent and stern, usually only showing a stoic face to the world.
Alex does everything in his aforementioned enthusiastic way. His emotions are not hard to analyze, he makes no efforts to hide his feelings, but he does make efforts to keep them in control. He sometimes had problems with this as a child, his temper was very quick then, but since then he has grown up, learning productive ways to express it.
The firstborn, Alex was an only child for nearly seven years before Fern was born. The almost seven-year old otterlad was fascinated by this little furry bundle.Any other details:
The two were inseparable, not surprising in their tiny Holt, as they were the only two children. Alex led a charmed life, becoming more than proficient with his chosen weapons, but never having to fire upon another beast.
One hard winter when he was 18, his father died. The young otter was hard hit by the loss, and he is still not totally over it. That spring his grandmother insisted he leave the holt to wander a bit. With some reluctance he agreed, but he knew they would be safe. They had friends nearby, and vermin had never known the home was there.
He wandered for three years, returning periodically to see his family. He found the shark dead on the shore one day, and soon saw the advantages to using its tough skin.
He spent the last couple years on ship, returning after a spectacularly successful voyage, only to find his home burned to ashes and Fern vanished to where, no beast knew.
He spent that spring and summer searching what he knew, the north-west coast and ships. When he failed to find even a hint of her there, he started walking east, where he ran smack-dab into Mossflower. The innocent otterlad years gone, now Alex is a warrior, bent on finding Fern alive. Or avenging her death.
