As a working beast entering the latter end of his prime years, Nicodemus possesses a lean frame, encased in compact muscle acquired from years of labor and exertion. He stands at average stoat height, allowing him to tower over many other beasts such as rats and mice, and his posture is often straight and attentive. His hide is covered in a pelt of ungroomed fur, off-white along his underbelly and the insides of his arms and legs and brown everywhere else, save for the tip of his tail, which appears to have been dipped in dark ink. The fur around his neck, however, is slightly worn and thinner than the rest of his coat. As is typical with many vermin, Nicodemus is missing several of his fangs, and several scars rake across his forearms.

Nicodemus often dons a washed-out, earth-colored vest without buttons to fasten, as well as a pair of ragged grey trousers suspended by a length of rope.

Belongings:

Aside from his attire, Nicodemus possesses few personal belongings. A dagger sometimes hangs near his side, more of a striking tool than a blade due to its blunted edge. Nicodemus' more preferred weapon is a length of chain which he normally keeps wound around one of his paws during a conflict. Near his sleeping area he stows an old grog container, filled almost to the brim with fangs and teeth, taken from his past kills.

Nicodemus has been a corsair since his early childhood, and has performed a number of tasks related to sailing and pillaging.

Personality:

A beast of few words, Nicodemus is often seen working on his own. However, he possesses great ambitions and often spends his laboring hours contemplating situations and how to best manipulate others to his favor. The stoat is not completely without some sense of comradery, however. Nicodemus does share in some of his ship mates' antics during their spare hours, though he is more often a witness than a participant. Even in battles he will sometimes go out of his way to aid another one of his mates in need, though he is normally ruthlessly attacking the opposition with his chain.

History and Background Information:

Nicodemus was born to a bar wench in a port town, his father having simply met her while his ship was docked and leaving with the crew. As soon as he could walk on his own, his mother sent him out as a spare hand for local fisherbeasts. Near the end of Nicodemus' dibbunhood, his mother sold him off to a corsair crew, and he was then raised in the ways of pillage and plunder, salty breezes and the endless swaying of a sea vessel.

Assigned the most labour-intensive and mediocre tasks on the ship, Nicodemus simply carried out his chores day-to-day for several seasons, avoiding conflict with the elderbeasts on board. At one of the ship's stops, however, he was brought into one of the town's taverns. As is usual, drinks were had and tempers flared, and Nicodemus ended up on the receiving end of a couple of stool legs. Egged on by his shipmates, Nicodemus wrestled with his intoxicated assailant, and finished the beast by choking him with his bare paws. Impressed with his feat, his shipmates began to refer to him has Gallowgrip, and he soon began to ascend the ranks of the ship's personnel.
