Age: 20
Species: Shrew (Plain ole shrew-shrew)
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Laila is short, like most shrews. Having been a slave her whole life, she has the characteristic whip scars and gaunt frame of a beast who has lived with nothing her whole life. She has fierce, hazel eyes, and usually has an air of defiance about her. Her fur is a subtly mottled gray-brown, with lighter gray around the eyes and on her underside. She is clothed in a pretty standard brown rag dress; it reaches to her knees in tatters.Belongings:
Being a slave, she owns only her clothing.Job or Position:
SlavePersonality:
Despite the sweet-sounding name, Laila is an active volcano. She really doesn't know how else to deal with what life has given her besides fight tooth and nail. Except around Brend, she is slightly belligerent and openly defiant. She can be ridiculously stubborn. However, there is notable change when Brend is around. She is kinder, softer, more accepting. She has a very maternal relationship with him, and getting between her is like getting between a thousand mother bears and a single communal cub. She is very insecure about this relationship; she draws a lot of her (limited) stability from it, and constantly worries she isn't a good mother figure. Not that she'd let anyone know, and those who like not being strangled would be advised not to allude to her insecurities.History and Background Information:
Laila is a slave, born and bred. Her mother died only a short time after her birth; her father lived until she was about nine. He was never much of an influence on his daughter, however. He was severely depressed by the death of his wife and the simple torture that was everyday for the slaves, and eventually he simply died. For the next ten years, she was on her own, for the most part.Any other details:
Her life was a cycle of slave labor punctuated every so often with beatings for poor behavior. She simply couldn't hold her temper down, and with little to tether her, her fuse grew shorter and shorter. However, this changed when Brend came to the Fort. She came to his aid when he had trouble keeping up with the work; before long, she was his unofficial guardian, a position she has fiercely upheld to this point. Now, she manages to lose her temper only when it is to protect her ward. She no longer feels it is acceptable to do so for no reason, in the danger that it might leave Brend alone, as she was. That is something she will never allow to happen.
Laila's pretty handy with a staff. Nothing for settling an angry temper like a long, hard pole to beat vermin senseless with.Code Words: correct
