Tirael is a slim, strong young otter. He is a little short, but not so much that his proportions look wrong. His fur is chocolate-brown, with creamy off-white fur on his underbelly. His eyes are a deep midnight blue, and reflect his quiet nature. Tirael wears a sleeveless green tunic belted around his waist. Sometimes, this is accompanied by a traveling cloak the same blue as his eyes. Unless he is in Camp Moss, he takes a tan, burlap bag with a long strap to go over his shoulder. It contains his supplies, as he is a healer.

Belongings:

Tirael owns several jars, bottles, bowls, and a mortar and pestle for his herbs and medicines. He also has two knives: one for use in his work, and a dagger for self-defense in case he is cut off from help. Other than this, all he owns are his clothes.

Job or Position:

Tirael works as a healer for the rebels at Camp Moss, as their line of work tends to get them injured ^^

Personality:

Tirael is quiet, and doesn't usually start unnecessary conversation. This isn't out of anti-sociality; he isn't a master at conversation, and thus is bad at starting it himself. He gets awkward and uncomfortable around creatures he doesn't know, especially rowdy ones. He is kind by nature, and tries to form relationships, but often finds it too difficult (he tries too hard, believing that that is the only way to make friends). When he does befriend someone, he is extremely loyal, going to great lengths to help those he cares about. This urge can be strong enough to make him overcome his peaceful nature, causing him to fight when he would usually rely on the help of others.

History and Background Information:

Tirael's grandparents lived at Redwall many years ago, leaving a few years before it was taken by N'ashi's horde. They had children, one of which was Tirael's mother. After she met his father, they moved to a small home south of Mossflower. They had two children: Streamlily, a little girl, and her younger brother Tirael.

When Tirael was five, his parents decided to visit Redwall, as Tirael's mother wanted to see her parents' birthplace. Within a league of the now-Fort N'Ashi, the family was ambushed by a party of vermin patrolling Mossflower. Tirael's mother shoved her children into a hollow log, telling them to stay quiet. When the noise from outside faded, Streamlily went out to find their parents; crying, she ran back and told Tirael they had to leave. Grabbing his paw, she pulled him away from the area, and they ran west.

Unfortunately, the same party that attacked them earlier found them again, and they chased them. Tirael was separated from his sister, and began running in circles looking for her. This allowed the vermin to catch up, and he received a good number of cuts along with a slingstone to the head. Falling, he was sure he would die there. However, a timely appearance from some rebels drove off his attackers. As he passed out, he saw the silhouettes of friendly creatures closing in.

Coming to after over a week, he recovered under the care of sympathetic healers in Camp Moss. He was grateful, but he was distant and constantly isolated himself. He couldn't remember most of his life from before his injuries; though he has had dreams of his lost sister, he has no idea who she is. As nobody does, he moved on and thought only of the present. Eventually, his gratitude to those who had cared for him led him to choose a life in medicine; he proved himself an intelligent and quick-learning student, showing excellent intuition for the field. By this point, he has become the choice for treatment of major injury and illness.

Any other details:

Tirael is a liability in combat. He isn't a particularly skilled or instinctive fighter, and in most cases relies on the defense provided by allies. This is vital, as he is an invaluable medic on the battlefield.

A couple years after he was found, he was adopted by Skipper.

Apparently, his last name's Tiderunner. Who knew?
