Physical Description:
An otter in his prime, Treb stands at average height for an otter. He is strong, with sinewy muscles that make him one of the best swimmers in the holt.Belongings:
His face is pleasant, handsome enough but not outstandingly so. As a sea otter his whiskers are thicker and bushier than the river otters who make up the rest of the holt. His warm brown eyes are set in creases that are already starting to develop. He has two gold hoops in his left ear, left over from his wilder days sailing the Eastern sea. He also wears a silver and enamel medallion around his neck embossed with the emblem of his tribe, a stylized silver otter diving through sapphire waves.
Overall Treble is a very friendly and warm personality, and it definitely shows in his appearance and demeanor. He is a very active and enthusiastic otter.
Earrings, the medallion that was his brother's, a blue tunic and various sundry objects he picked up in his travels.Personality:
Treble by nature is a very honest, loyal beast. He is not skilled in deceptions, and is in fact very easy to decipher. He is protective of his friends and family, even at times to a point where one might say his judgement could be compromised.History:
He's cautious and likes to plan ahead, and puts his very sharp mind to analyzing what actions might best benefit him and those he cares about. He is particularly good at this when it comes to battles. This proved to be very handy as the captain of one of the ships that provided his clan with sea protection. He is a wanderer at heart but after nearly a year has started to put down roots in Mossflower. Recent events draw him even more to stay.
He was struck hard by the loss of his brother and Rosewater, and processing that loss will come slowly to him. Meanwhile he has a young niece he knows next to nothing about to worry about.
He also has a bit of a temper, his family being hotblooded by nature. Tagyr's overt calm was an anomaly. Although he has learned patience and mechanisms to control his temper, he is still rather volatile, especially with the raw pain of his brother's recent death over him.
The Tiderunners are a small clan, living on the northeast coast of Mossflower. It is a largely peaceful area, although without a large fortress such as Salamandastron is on the west coast, the denizens are known to be more warlike than first appearances suggest. They must rely on themselves and any neighbors that ally with them to fend against pirates, corsairs and roving land bands of bandits.
The Tiderunners were known to be particularly fierce, strong swimmers and warriors. Other than the young and infirm, for most of the year they sailed the seas.
Treble was the second of two sons, born in late fall, and also the lastborn of his mother. She wasn't a particularly motherly type person, and left to wander the seas soon after he was weaned. Eventually she lost contact with her husband, and was never heard from again.
Hijakk was an older otter, not out of his prime in years, although an accident on board ship before his eldest, Tagyr's, birth left him landbound with only one leg. He raised the boys as best he could, and it was a good life.
It was not without challenges or difficulties, but the clan lived in relative peace and prosperity. The two brothers were inseparable, each trying to outdo the other. It usually wasn't that much of a contest, as Tagyr was not only larger, but four years older to boot. He would grow to tower over his little brother, a fact he loved to rub in.
Soon enough the young Tiderunners went off to sea. Treble was only sixteen years old. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at sea. It was a glorious life for two rambunctious young otters, full of adventure, exploration, pirates and mayhem.
Although the brothers were inseparable in most things, there was one in which Tagyr stood apart. He had a sweetheart, Rosewater, a fiery maid whose passion for life matched his own. The birth of their daughter took her back to the clan holt. Tagyr stayed aboard ship with Treble, the year was particularly full of vermin.
Treble had no mate of his own, although he did occasionally have dalliances, none of them lasted long. As the years passed he steadied, partially the influence of his more level-headed elders, partially the simple influence of age.
As they got older Tagyr became restless with the unpredictable life of the high seas, and left to adventure over the land with Rosewater and their young daughter. He was more peaceminded than most of his clan, although a furious fighter when roused he preferred quieter settings.
Treble continued his adventures at sea, even captaining a few vessels. His first ship was dashed to pieces on a reef in a freak storm, forcing the crew to make a very dangerous swim towards shore in the storm.
Eventually he too turned towards the land, but more as one more place he had yet to explore. It was while he was traveling south of Salamandastron that a message bird from Redwall found him. It had taken the bird more than a season and a half to find the wayward Tiderunner. It was a letter from his brother, requesting a visit.
It was already fall when Treble set out for Redwall, and winter was setting in as he reached those famed walls. He spent the season there, catching up on nearly ten years of absence. In the spring he journeyed out into Mossflower and ended up joining Skipper's crew at Camp Moss. He intended to stay in the area for a few seasons, perhaps even an entire year.
It was at the Season Nameday Feast that the world came crashing down. Treble hadn't attended, in fact the entire Crew had traveled downriver to visit another holt for some otter ceremony. Tagyr and Rosewater had been among the few qualified, tested warriors in Redwall the day it fell. Rosewater fell wielding the sword of Martin, doing her duty as Champion to protect the fleeing Redwallers, Tagyr wielding his javelin at her side. Neither of them survived, although Tampa, their daughter, was among the survivors who fled.
It is only a short time after the fall of their Abbey, and most of the woodlanders are scattered. Not many know what to do next.
