Mommy? ... There in the woods! ...
blink.
Oh, no ... stay in here Streamlilly ... Tirael .... Stay!
blink.
I'm scared! ... We always love you ... Mommy? What's going on? ....
blink blink.
Arrrrggg ... Owww... Aaaahhhh ... Hahahahahaha
blink
Nooo ... We have to run Tirael ... Tirael?..... TIRAEL!!!!!
A tall black otter closed her midnight blue eyes as she struggled to hold back the tears. Her dark hooded eyelashes flickered. Her whiskered twitched as she contained herself.
She is Rajani Nisha, The Dark One, Black Death, The Huntress...
But that wasn't what she was before....
Opening her eyes, Jani looked around the little glade she was in. It all happened here. Everything changed in this peaceful little spot. How can it be so peaceful?
The sun shone through the tops of the trees, spattering the ground with green and yellow light. The calm breeze rustled the leaves and the grasses. A small song bird sang in the distance as Jani sat upon the remains of an old rotted log that was barely even a log anymore.
Jani's dark fur stood out like a large splot in the middle of the green shrubbery. She sat upon her knees on the old log remains. Her black bow and a single arrow resting upon her lap. Tattooed paws upon the weapons, and rudder swishing quietly upon the ground amongst the dead grasses and leaves.
She opened her eyes. Streamlilly, the name echoed through her mind. That was my name... It is still my name...And I shall prove it... I have to find him....
BONG BONG!!
Jani flinched as the loud noise interrupted her meditation. Her paws instinctively grasping her bow as she jump up. What was that? Eyes flashing around, knocking the arrow to her bow. then she heard it again.
BONG BONG!!
Looking up through a break in the leaves, Jani saw a bell tower? A red bell tower? Redwall Abbey! Jani's mother's voice echoed through her mind. The tall red walls, the beautiful bells...Yes! That's what it must be! Maybe, just maybe they knew of Tirael? It would be a good place to start...better then where she was now....a graveyard.....
Jani's black ears twitched. She wasn't alone. Great just great! More bounty hunters! Just what she needed! Keeping her bow in front of her body as to conceal it from the creature behind her, waiting. Waiting for her opponent to make the first move....

“Those are vermin assassin tattoos.” said a voice behind the otter, a hoarse, deep-for-a-female voice. The owner was a black squirrel, she stood on the opposite side of the clearing, a staff in her paw. The staff was not held threateningly, merely as though she were using it as a walking stick. “But ye are no vermin.” She continued, one eye looking out of a horribly scarred face.
She took a few steps forward, eye on the otter’s face. “Wot are ye lookin’ for?”

Leaf Eye was in a tall maple, watching this strange beast. He could not decipher what beast it could possibly be. He saw it carried weapons, so it was not a friendly. It had the tattoos of a vermin, and he saw arrows, so this could possibly be his father's killer. Leaf Eye couldn't see what color the arrow tips were, but even if it was not his father's killer, vermin were best dead. He silently unstrapped his bow and quickly loaded three arrows into his bow. He decided not to kill this one though, for some instinct told him he may get information out of this vermin. He shot two arrows down towards a belt he could see and kept one in his bow incase of resistance, trying to cut the belt so as to disarm the vermin.

“Those are vermin assassin tattoos.”
Jani's ears twitched as the creature spoke. It was a deep voice. Feminine, but deep, well seasoned, but not old.
Tilting her arrow head a bit, Jani could see the small reflection of the creature on the darken arrow head. It was a squirrel. It was armed with a staff, but not in a way of aggression. It's face was also heavily scarred an one eye almost looked like she couldn't use it. Keeping her bow in front of, just in case, Jani replied.
"Yes, they are aren't they." Her close cold and hard, but a bit ashamed.
“But ye are no vermin.”
Jani's rudder swished quietly upon the ground behind her. The squirrel had noticed. Not many did at first. Remaining calm Jani nodded. "You're correct I am not."
“Wot are ye lookin’ for?”
What was she looking for? Why did this squirrel care what she was looking for? What Jani was really looking for would never be true again, but her brother may be and she was looking for him. So in an essence she was looking for someone. But how did this squirrel know that she was looking in the first place? She could have just been wandering.
"Why do you care...." Jani began to ask the squirrel when she aburptly stopped mid sentence and spun very quickly to her right. She had heard a sound rather familiar to her. The quiet twang of a bow. Someone was shooting at her!
Jani's spin was just in time, if by chance a little late. For one of the arrows completely missed it's target, but the second lightly grazed her leather corset, causing a small tear, but not puncturing the skin.
Now miffed at being shot at and now having to repair her only outfit, upon completing her spin, Jani fired the single shot that was preloaded into her bow up in the trees in the direction of the shooter. She knew that her shot would come close to the shooter, but not harm them. She really didn't want to kill anybeast that might be innocent, even if they did try to attack her.
After her first warning shot was fired, Jani immediately ready her bow with another arrow, still pointed up at the trees. Doing this, Jani realized that she left herself vunerable to attack from the squirrel to her left, but the squirrel had the chance to kill her before, and it chose to talk. Jani wasn't to concerned, a minor bit cautious, but not overly concerned, so she could turn most of her attention to her attacker.
"Try that again." Jani said in her cold hard voice, arrow pointed up at the tree. " I dare ye."

Leaf Eye stood rock still as he saw the arrow heading towards him. He knew it was just a warning shot, and took this chance to check what color the tip was. Black...This was not his vermin. Then he heard the vermin make a threat, but he was not deturred. That was when he turned his head and saw the old squirrel. The vermin must have taken prisoners. He decided to negotiate, that way no one would have to die. He stayed hidden, but stated, "Look, we both have an arrow in our bows. If one of us fires it'll be the end for both of us. How about you let the poor old squirrel go, and we call it even. I just don' like any vermin. wanderin' these here woods. Especially ones with hostages." He kept his bow aimed at the vermin's chest, ready for almost anything.
*sorry for shortness. I'm still new to RP's such as this. Others aren't as intense.*

"You're correct I am not."
Enon only stood there, waiting. If she wanted to speak about it, then she would. If not, then she wouldn’t. It was that simple to the squirrel.
"Look, we both have an arrow in our bows. If one of us fires it'll be the end for both of us. How about you let the poor old squirrel go, and we call it even. I just don' like any vermin. wanderin' these here woods. Especially ones with hostages.”
“Hey!” Enon was up the tree in a flash, soon coming face to face with the younger squirrel, her scarred face mere feet from his. “Ah am no old, ye liddle puddenfaced treewhacker! An’ jest ‘cos Ah lost mah aye dinna mean Ah’m ‘elpless!” The eye issue was still a sore subject, mere months after the loss, during her slow recovery of her equilibrium.
The fierce warrior stood firm, her one-eyed gaze determined. To be mistaken for auld an’ infirm! It wasna to be borne!
"An' ye leave 'er alone!" She snapped as an afterthought.

"That's where you are wrong." Jani replied curtly. Her rudder swishing upon the ground. From where the voice came from, Jani knew exactly where the creature was. And from what it called her, the creature was a good beast. She wasn't about to kill anybeast who didn't deserve it.
Bow still pointed at the tree, Jani continued. "I could kill you before you even knew that I moved. Could..." Jani put down her bow. "But I won't. Because I am not vermin. Nor do I take good creatures as hostages."
“Hey! Ah am no old, ye liddle puddenfaced treewhacker! An’ jest ‘cos Ah lost mah aye dinna mean Ah’m ‘elpless!”
Rajani remained still and solemn, however she was struggling not to start chuckling. The shooter, whom she now knew to be a squirrel, was getting reprimanded rather harshly by the other.
"An' ye leave 'er alone!"
Jani's eyes widened a bit in surprise. No one had ever stuck up for her like that before. Why? Why did that squirrel do that? She had no reason to help Jani. She wasn't worth helping anyways...

Leaf Eye was suddenly beside a battle worn squirrel, screaming in his face. In shock and surprise he fell backwards out of the tree, and landed on his head. He heard the creature he had called vermin deny his claim, and boast about shooting him without moving. He got up, and it appeared as if the world was spinning. After spinnig with the world until it stopped, he dizzily turned towards the creature and stated, "You may be quiet but I never miss. Now back to the topic, if your not a vermin, what are you and what are you doing with an elder- I mean battle worn warrior squirrel?"

Enon blinked in surprise as the other fell out of the tree… and landed on his head. In a flash she was down, landing easily on her feet.
“I think,” She stated coldly, picking up her staff, “the better question would be; who are you, and did your landing affect your eyesight? Or were you just born that way?” The dark-furred squirrel flicked her ears back, of course she had to run across an idiot in the woods when her scars were hurting her. Damn kids.
[[Sorry Leafy, she's not one of my nicer or happier chars.]]

*its ok. All the more fun to RP are the mean charries.*
Leaf Eye retorted to the black squirrel, "No! And you're one to talk with your missing eye!" It had been the last thing he saw before he fell. He brushed himself off, and answered the black squirrels question, "And for your information, I have a right to be here. I was just passing through the trees, when I saw..." Leaf Eye then gestured to the acused vermin, "...that. From up high, anything black with tatoos looks like a vermin. I just wanted to protect these woods from danger!" Leaf Eye looked up at the sky angrily. He thought, why me?! Why did I have to get stuck with a grumpy old squirrel and a strange beast with vermin tatoos. He then asked, "Enough about me. Now what are YOU?" He turned towards the creature.

Jani watched as her attacker fell from the tree after being rebuked harshly by the other squirrel. He landed smack on his head. Surprising that a squirrel would land on his head Jani almost started to move to see if he was alright, but she stayed put when he got up by himself.
"You may be quiet but I never miss. Now back to the topic, if your not a vermin, what are you and what are you doing with an elder- I mean battle worn warrior squirrel?"
"I never said anything about not being accurate, you did." Jani simply replied. as she watched the squirrel regain his balance.
The other question stung Jani a bit. WHAT are you? It wasn't WHO are you, he asked WHAT, like she wasn't much of anyone.
Bowing her head a bit, her ears twitching shamefully, Jani thought of how to answer his question. Truthfully, she didn't feel like much of anyone. She wasn't the assassin she was trained to be, even if she still could be, but she wasn't sure she was Streamlilly anymore. WHAT was she?....
While Jani looked down at her footpaws, the other squirrel lept down from the tree landing perfectly upon her footpaws.
“I think,” She stated coldly, picking up her staff, “the better question would be; who are you, and did your landing affect your eyesight? Or were you just born that way?”
"No! And you're one to talk with your missing eye! [...] And for your information, I have a right to be here. I was just passing through the trees, when I saw..."
The squirrel gestured toward Jani.
"...that. From up high, anything black with tatoos looks like a vermin. I just wanted to protect these woods from danger!"
There! He did it again! Jani's shoulders slumped a bit more in shame. He referred to her as a thing again. Like she wasn't even a real creature. He described her as a threat. She could be a threat, but she didn't want to be. She hadn't done anything! He shot at her first!!
"Enough about me. Now what are YOU?"
Jani looked up into the squirrel's eyes, her midnight blue eyes cold, but not harsh, more soft like they were in pain. WHAT was she? Looking back down at the ground, Jani replied. "I'm not to sure anymore..."

"No! And you're one to talk with your missing eye!"
Enon moved faster than it seemed possible, moving to grab the younger squirrel’s ear and twist it roughly. “Wot are ye, all but twelve?” She hissed, both eyes seeming to focus on Leaf Eye, though her right eye was whitish and saw nothing. “Ah am a warrior from the North, a member o’ the Long Patrol, an’ Ah fought for the freedom o’ this Mossflower. Ah gained these scars honorably,” her gaze raked scornfully over the young archer, “I paid the price, and it was worth it.”
"And for your information, I have a right to be here. I was just passing through the trees, when I saw..." Leaf Eye then gestured to the acused vermin, "...that. From up high, anything black with tattoos looks like a vermin. I just wanted to protect these woods from danger!"
“Yore really terrifying.” Enon sneered, releasing the squirrel.
"I'm not to sure anymore..."
The black squirrel turned to the dyed otter. “Would ye like to come to Redwall with me? Perhaps you’ll find out there.”

Leaf Eye realised he had hurt the creatures feelings in his rage, and shamefully bent his head and said said, "I'm sorry if I got angry at you earlier. It's just that black squirrel got on my nerves. I just thought you were a vermin..." Leaf Eye faultered trying to say this kindly, "It was just the...uhhh...tatoos and fur. Honest mistake." Leaf Eye turned his head back towards the squirrel and angrily began, "Now for you eye-less one, my father faught in that war, and it killed him. I wasleft alone at the age of 10 by my tribe, and found my father's hut burnt and he's probally kidnapped or dead. I shot the vermin that done it, and I have a feelig she's still alive, so its common sense to be on the look out. She'd be wanting revenge, and so do I." He went back in his mind to the day he found his father's shack...ruined and burnt, all that remained from the ashes was the red bow. A small tear quickly went down his face, he wiped it off before it could go far, and he held the rest in. He scowled at the old squirrel for making him relive those memories, and tricking him into revealing himself. He asked the squirrel, "Now what are YOU doing here? I've shared all my secrets."

Jani looked away, her eyes still downcast. Everyone always thought she was vermin. Everyone always took one look at her fur and her tattoos and thought her to be evil. She really hated it. She hated having this label of evil and treachery follow her where ever she went, when she never really did any of those things. Honest mistake. Sure. It always was. She was a mistake...
“Wot are ye, all but twelve? [...] Ah am a warrior from the North, a member o’ the Long Patrol, an’ Ah fought for the freedom o’ this Mossflower. Ah gained these scars honorably, [...] I paid the price, and it was worth it. [...] Yore really terrifying.”

Standing off to the side, Jani listen to both stories. Both squirrels had been through a lot and Jani felt equally sorry for them both, but how was she supposed to help? She couldn't really... Maybe help hunt down the killer of the younger squirrel's father, but right now, she had more important business to attend too...She had to find her baby brother...She had to find Tirael....
The black squirrel turned to the dyed otter. “Would ye like to come to Redwall with me? Perhaps you’ll find out there.”
Rajani's eyes widen as she jerked her head up toward the black squirrel. Redwall? She was willing to help Jani get to Redwall? Maybe this creature knew of Tirael! She did say that she fought for the freedom of Mossflower! Maybe....
"If you would take me, I would be most pleased." Jani replied, trying her best to be polite. "And..." Jani took a deep breath, she had to ask, even if the squirrel did not know, it couldn't hurt to ask, right? "...Do ye happen to know an otter by the name of Tirael?.."

Leaf Eye had heard stories of Redwall, and he could've sworn Tirael was in one...He remembered bits and peices of a story involving an otter healer named Tirael...but he thought them all fake. Redwall was fake too. Just a made up legend for children. He asked dumbfounded, "Redwall is real?" He had heard stories of redwaller's kind hospitality and great cooking. Maybe he could even find some information about his father's kidnapper there. Even if he didn't he would atleast find a place. He decided to tag along, but secretly. He knew the black squirrel would say no. He interrupted, "Well, I'd best be off." He turned around and walked off into the woods until he couldn't see them. He then climbed a tree, and stealthily crossed tree branches until he reached the clearing where the two animals were, and watched them, not moving a muscle.
